Ford 501 Sickle Bar Compatibility

I have a Ford 501 sickle bar mower that I bought for 50 bucks at an auction. It seems to have another connector piece beyond the normal three point hitch points. Its attached to the lower portion of the mount for the mower, and looks as if its supposed to clamp onto something. I'm not sure if this is a connection that is specific to some tractor?
I'll be using the mower with a International 240 with a 3 point hitch. Any ideas?

mine has been modified so I am not suer where the irght one is supposed to mount - but it lifts the outer end of the bar - mine mounts in a hole on the left lower three point arm

that bracket bolts on to the lower lift arm,there is a 5/8 bolt and a top half of a clamp that goes aroud the arm. it makes the mower trail straight on the arms.

There are some oddball stablizer deals I've never figured out where they go right near the bottom 2 3pt pins. I don't think this is what you are talking about.

Out of the bottom of the left side of the tube frame there is a rod with ball ends on it, with a clamp on the free end. This is what you are talking about? Often times at a sale, the clamp goes missing - good luck with that, the top part of the clamp costs as much as you paid for the whole mower.....

Anyhow, you hook up the mower on the ground, and you clamp this bar to the left 3pt arm. As the mower lifts up, this rod lifts up the far side of the mowerbar. You can adjust how high the bar lifts, and how much it drags on the ground a bit by sliding the clamp forward or rearward an inch or 2.

It is designed to fit on Ford N through 100 or 1000 series lower arm. I made it work on a 1720 one time, but with a different shape of the lower arm, it can get a little difficult.

You really kinda need it attached to the arm, clamped on.

I have a Ford 501 sickle bar mower that I use on my 1973 Ford 2000 tractor. I'm not positive about this, but I think I'm right.

The Ford 501 Series of mowers comes in a bunch of different "models". The "model" numbers are comprised of a two digit number, a hyphen, and then a three digit number. I think that the different "models" are actually called attaching kits and are meant to accommodate mounting on different tractors. Depending on the tractor, the attachment points and attachment mechanisms are different, so different attaching kits provide for those differences.

I don't have any idea which attaching kit would be needed for your tractor, but you should be able to find a model number on your mower and ask a NH guy just what tractor it should attach to.

Like I said, I'm not positive about this scheme, but I think that's the way it works.

On the wobblebox is a little sheet metal cap about the size of a quarter (dollar). The bottom of the casting is open, so don't do as I first did and expect to fill that cavity with 90w oil........makes a big mess when it runs out the bottom. Grin

Pull the cap and stick your finger in there and feel around. There is a grease zerk there.

Paul has given you an accurate answer. Most likely what you are seeing is part or all of the linkage for the bar lift . There is a clamp that goes on the left lift arm for this linkage.There is also a clamp for the right side , but that does not go to the linkage. Whether you have all the parts , and whetehr the clamp will go on your lift arm would be your issues.There are 2 differnt frame sizes these mowers. You need to look at a manual for this mower to see where you stand. You should find one online - do a search.I tried to give you the website with (tractor)this(club) info (.com)but this site wont let me post it . Try putting all the words in ( ) together , thats the place.

We had a 501 sickle bar mower. Bought new and wore it out.

It fit on the following tractors with Cat.1 3ph.

TE-20 Ferguson
TO-30 Ferguson
641 Ford
800 Ford
2000 Ford.

Ok, I think the good news is that all the parts of this clamp are there, and with you all telling me where to clamp it, I should be ok! We'll see how it goes. Thanks for all the help.
