Hi fellows. I am not very up on the ford tractors. I bought a 6000 ford gas narrow front tractor. It has the select o speed transmission. It is a light blue and grey so I am guessing it is an older version of the 6000? My question is, was there an older and then newer version of this tractor? By looking at the picture ads, it looks like there might have been. I haven't got it home yet for pictures or I would post one. Thanks for any info.

I'm not much of a expert on Fords, but I think the original 6000s were RED and gray, and the later version was BLUE and gray. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

i think the blue one was the updated ommander and the older one the red/grey type.. before the field service / recalls

Technically 3 versions... First year or two was red and grey, then blue and grey, 3rd version was the 'Commander', also blue and grey, with a different grill and some upgrades. All 3 available with narrow or wide fronts (and long or short wheelbase wide fronts), and gas or diesel. ONLY available with the Select-O-Speed, though.
There's a gas/nf 6000 up for auction on smith-sales.com. Was up to $1300 yesterday.

I believe the 6000 was introduced about April of 1961. They were red/grey. In either late 62 or early 63, Ford elected to paint their entire line blue/grey from then on. Many of the early models were repainted blue and grey; I owned one that had been. I'm surprised Ford didn't offer a conventional transmission model of the tractor, as John Deere did when they came out with power-shift. (You could get a manual trans with the later Ford 600-700-800-900 series that were built 1959 on which were also offered with selecto-speed.

Ford Farmer, where is that auction you mentioned? I might have to throw in a bid on that 6000 NF!

That would be my first choice also. My Grandpa's Commander was the 'wheatland' style. If I could find one just like his, I'd probably have to buy it...

Here's a link, but I must have been thinking about a different 6000, cuz this one's a w/f. Now I gotta figure out where I've seen a n/f for sale. (I did see an early 4200 n/f on fastline at a dealer in IA)
ahhh... NOT a n/f

It does look like that one only with a narrow front. I'll try to get it home this weekend and check the serial number. Thanks for the replies. Bob

Here's the red/grey 6000.

The Commander. This one is set up like my Grandpa's was - short wheelbase wide front, 7.50x18's, and 18.4x34's on manual adjust rims.

I'm drawing a complete blank as to where I saw the n/f 6000 for sale. I've checked the picture ads here, fastline, ironsearch, craigslist (searchtempest), and tractorhouse, and haven't found one. Maybe the ad is gone now?
