Ford 651 Workmaster - identification / valuation

We're a law firm managing an Ohio estate and have an old Ford tractor onsite. I would appreciate help identifying / valuing the tractor so we can obtain permission from the courts to sell it.

First, where do I find relevant serial / "vin" numbers to assist with identification?

The tractor has been sitting in the field for at least 4 years. A local collector has offered $1100 for it "sight unseen", but we don"t know if that"s a fair price, and we need to obtain a formal appraisal, if that"s possible, before the courts will approve the sale. Any thoughts on value and/or where to obtain an appraisal?

I"m visiting the site within the week and will obtain any necessary info to reply to your posts. Picture available (can't post here as a guest). Anyone interested in the tractor is also welcome to contact me.

Thanks in advance for your help!
Jon

Serial number will be on the flat area to the rear and slightly above the starter. Value depends on a lot of things. Does the tractor run?? tires?? Need more information, Pictures would help.

The value of a tractor that may or may not be a running tractor is probably in the ballpark of the offer made. In some areas a non-running tractor may only bring $500. It is worth more than that just in parts. A local tractor expert, perhaps the collector can possibly give you a written estimate, a local auctioneer who has dealt with tractors or your local CNH dealer. The condition of the tires (% of tread), sheet metal, gas or diesel, power steering, equipped with a loader, any equipment with it and whether it runs or is an easy repair will help determine the value. A running 651 may bring anywhere from $2500 to $3500. The area you live in will also be a factor effecting its value.

The serial number is located on a flat just aft of the starter located on the left side of the tractor as you sit in the seat. There will be two rows of numbers, the top row will be the model number and the second the serial number. If you look to the left column of this page there is a category called "serial numbers". Once you have the serial number you can follow the link and determine the year.

A photo would certainly be helpful. If you go to PhotoBucket you can post your photo there and then post it here via a direct link.

Jump on it JD.

Non running tractors are parts tractors. A 6x1 parts tractor is most likely worth somewhere between $500-$1000 depending upon visual condition and options.

A local auctioneer will likely be able to prepare an appraisal that the probate court will accept.

Thanks for the feedback!

Jon:

The pictured tractor is visually better than most of the vintage. Non running, it might be worth the $1100 offered. If it were running so that other systems could be observed, it should bring $2500+.

Where is this tractor located ? Rear tires look good but sitting out in the hot sun may have taken a toll on them . Prices vary according to the state its in .I"d like to see more pics if possible . Look for ID numbers on the flat area under the air cleaner where the starter bolts in . It sure would make a great restoration project .God bless

If that thing was running in decent enough shape to be called a working tractor it would easily bring 3800-4500 as it is here in my region.

Looks like a solid tractor but it wouldn't bring anywhere near the values being mentioned in my area (IL). Not running, but engine not locked up might bring what you've been offered. If its locked up $500-800. Get it running and it might bring $1600-$2500 in my area.

with the alternator on it, its probably a 12 volt conversion... so it will be easier to jump it off and get it going.. figure on dumping the gas tank, flushing it a bit, and with new fuel and maybe a carburator rebuild.. so a $200 bet (work),might get you back another $1500 or more. three tires showing are very good condition or at least they look to be. sheet metal is good, looks like someone restored it and took good care of it.

Like others have said, it depends on your area, and model.
You are pretty close to WNY. Here, 6x1's are a
much sought after model.
651 and 661 even more so.
non-running, as pictured would sell immediately
here at $1500.
Running, moving, as pictured would sell at $3500+++

Hope you let us know what you decide to ask for it.
A lot of us have trailers......... :)
