Ford 860 value?

My dad has an old Ford 860 or 861, I don't remember which. He said he is thinking of selling it. The tractor ran good up until last fall. He went to start it one day and the battery was dead (again) because the key had been left on (again). He hooked the jumper cables to it backwards and let the magic smoke out. I need to haul it to my shop and see what it burned up and get it running.

Anyway, I was wondering about what he should ask for it when I get it running again. The tractor is in good shape mechanically. It could stand painting, but doesn't look bad and isn't rusted. Tires are good except for one of the rear tires that is dry rotting and needs to be replaced.

Anybody have an idea of what it should realistically be worth? I hate to ask too much, but also want to help him get as much as possible for it.

Insufficient information for useful response but, in general, a non-running tractor is a parts tractor worth $500 - $750.

The way you describe it and if you get it running w/o issue probably would be worth 2,100-2,200 dollars. To get over 3,000 dollars the appearance would have to be excellent as well as running excellent. A picture would be helpful here.

Thanks. That is about what I was thinking. A few years ago they were selling for a good bit more, but with dealers now offering long term and sometimes interest free financing, prices have fallen on used tractors that size. I will get it running and start out asking 2500 or so and see what happens.

Assuming you get it running I'd say $2500
is a good place to start. Both the 860 and
861 would have the 5 sp w/lpto which ads
some value. I would mention that in the ad.
If it has power steering I would start it a
bit higher - maybe $2800 or so.
Also mention if it has a remote hyd valve
on it. They add value too.
