Ford 8N Identification

Need help identifying recently purchased Ford tractor. Have found "8N4024" and "8N C" on the left side. There is an "SN 7006 C" on the right side.

I"d like to know year, horsepower rating and capabilities for the 3-point hitch (wanting to add a 5" brush hog - is this a good thing?)

Any help would be appreciated.

Those numbers match those on a tractor that was stolen in our area. Where are you located? My email is open. The tractor would really crank a 5" brush hog. You might consider moving up to a 5' hog. The numbers you gave may be casting #s and could match a lot of other tractors. If those are S/N numbers, then it looks like you have a 1947 N. See Serial Numbers under Research & Info to the left of this screen. S/N is stamped on the block near the starter.

Have been doing a lot of looking around and came to the same conclusion on the year (based on the numbers). I guess I should have mentioned that the distributor is on the side of the engine, not out front. I've been told that didn't happen until 51 or 52. Now you understand my confusion!!

And yes, a 5' mower is what I had in mind.

Well first off does it have a 4 speed tranny or a 3 speed?? Serial number will be on the left side of the engine just behind the oil filter and below the head. Theres a flat spot where they are stamped. Side mount distirubutors came out in late 1950 early 1950s had front mounts.

5" is plenty bush hog. You absolutely must have an overrunning clutch on the PTO or you will do great harm to yourself, the tractor, or a building. Unless the engine has been replaced, the side distribbutor came only in the last year of 8N production, which was '52 or '53. I used to know when I had an 8N. Since then I found not all tractors are such toys.
