Ford 901 brush hog

I got a brush hog with a 2n a while back. pulled it out to check it out, and it's a Ford model 901 or 90I. Anyone have an ad or picture of an original one. What years were they made? It appeared to be blue with a red gearbox. Also, while I'm dreaming, would anyone know the part # for the original drive shaft, or have a used one to sell? I have the rear half, but the front half was missing.

The other N board has manuals on the Ford 901 mower. I tried to post a picture but it was blocked.

Thanks, that's a big help. I'm guessing this one may be a 60s model, or painted 60s color. There's only about 2 square inches of blue paint on the deck. It's remarkably solid and tight for its' age I just want to get it back to what it used to look like. No color brochures back then though. :roll:

if its like the one we had, you need to check out that slip clutch in front of the gear box and be sure it works properly.

that slip clutch is your best friend, as the ford rotatory cutter we had ((did not have a stump jumper)).

you never know when you are going to hit a solid rock or pipe, etc: if the slip clutch does not work you can break a tractor pto shaft, bust the gearbox or no telling what else you can tear up.

I sold my ford rotatory cutter and got one with a stump jumper. The dealer sold the old ford cutter to another fellow and he hit an iron pipe stuck in the ground with it, the impact busted the gearbox as the slip clutch did not work.

on the flip side the old ford cutter did a great job, it would leave my apple orchard as smooth as if I had mowed it with my lawn tractor, the new cutter I bought would not do that.

Just a heads up on that slip clutch.

I may try to get the clutch working if it doesn't. I suspect it doesn't. They were running it with an overrun coupler. No stump jumper on this one either. I may change it over to a shear bolt type. The most it will mow where it's going is some briars and weeds that the bigger tractors and batwings cant get to.
