Ford 950-2 tractor

I bought a ford 950-2 hicrop wide front tractor with 42 inch rear wheels. I would like to know what the -2 stands for. The -2 is clearly visable. If it came from the factory with the highcrop wide front it should be a -4. Is it possiable that it would be a factory highcrop single wheel. According to a old ford parts book ford did offer a hicrop single wheel that hade a longer spindle then what the rowcrop single wheels had. Thanks, Ken 717-471-4094

I believe the -1 ..like mine has is for the single front wheel .. etc..

According to my service manual a -1 is a row crop with a single front wheel, a -5 is a row crop with a wide front, a -4 is a hicrop wide front with 38 inch or 42 inch rear wheels. No where can I find info on a -2 or -3. It seems odd that ford jumped from -1 to -4 and -5

I"m not freezing my tail off in Cedar Rapids today but I am at work (all Texas and Mexico flights) and my manuals are still at home.
I don"t know that I"ve ever seen or heard of a -2 but I know they used -1, -4 and -5 so I assume they also used -2 and -3. Your guess as to the availibility of a high crop single wheel sounds reasonable to me.

"-21" = Equipped with Combination transmission

Tim, that's interesting. I always thought that "-S" was the designation for combination transmission (S for Sherman). I know that every -S tractor I've ever run across has had a Sherman.

Do you have a Ford publication that lists the -21 as a combination tranny? If so, does that book also list the -S and say what it means?

Jim, It's from the FO-20 Shop Manual under the 3-digit model numbers. In the tranmission section they refer to it as a "Combination (Step Up/Step Down) Transmission (formally known as a Sherman Combination transmission)". Under the 4-digit model numbers I don't see any reference to the Combination (Sherman) Transmission. I have a 63 4000 that is stamped "-S".

That should be "5" digit model number, not "4".

Is your "63 4000 with the "-S" equipped with a Sherman? Any other ideas what the "-S" might mean?

Yes, my tractor has a Sherman transmission.
