I have an 1943 Ford 9N tractor which is not wanting to run. I have replaced the carb, the manifold, put new fuel lines on. It is getting gas to the carb but for some reason it is not sucking up into the engine. Really dont know what else to do. Any suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure you are getting gas thru the carb by removing the drain plug from the bottom of the carb. Collect gas in a container should flow steadily for several minutes. Make sure you are getting a good spark. Take an old spark plug, gap it to 3/16's and ground it on the engine. connect a spark plug wire to it and crank the engine, should see a bright blue spark. These two tests will tell you whether you have fuel and spark. A quick test for compression is to remove the air hose from the carb, crank the engine with you hand over the opening. should have suction. Check these things and post back.

Could be one of the 3 filters is clogged up. My dad used to take line loose at carb and blow air back thru to the gas tank. I'd remove the petcock and clean the filters (one inside tank and one above the clear bowl) - and make sure you clean the one down by the carb. Its gravity feed so if it ain't flowin it's stopped up somewheres.

needs vaccuum to draw fuel/air mixture into the engine. Remove carb and crank to see if you have suction, then spray starter fluid in while cranking. If everything else is good it should run. Richard

First thing to do is check your spark. Do you have a brite blue spark???????? If you do then take the air intake tube off the carb and hold your hand over the carb and make sure you have a good sucktion there if not you have a compression problem or a vacuum leak. As Dell will tell you most carb problems are really a problem with spark
