Ford Industrial Engine

Trying to figure out what this engine is so I can get parts for it. I was told it came off of a combine. I just found the tag on it. Says it’s a Ford industrial engine. Numbers on the tag are the best I can tell are: JD1020 / 2680-A29C4. I know JD1020 was a John Deere tractor. They didn’t ever use Ford engines did they? Don’t look like it’s ever been painted. No green or yellow on it. It’s now used as a power plant. So I don’t know what it was in originally. Any idea what I should tell the parts guy what I have.

Well, it's a Ford 4 cylinder 134/172/192ci 'Red Tiger' engine. Produced 1953 thru 1964 for the various series of Ford tractors. I understand the industrial version was produced for a few years after 1964. Ignition parts are common across the series, you can just ask for points/condensers/tune-up parts for any of those years - example: 1959 Ford 801, and tune-up parts will fit. Do be aware there is a clip on the top of the distributor shaft that is necessary.

Same with gaskets, valve cover gaskets are the same across all the models. There should be a number on a brass piece of the carb to definitively ID it. There are several carb numbers, but basically two series, 'small bowl' and 'big bowl'. It appears this engine has the 'small bowl' as it looks to have the power adjusting needle valve at the top. The 'big bowl' has the adjustment at the bottom of the bowl. Unless you are getting a major carb kit containing throttle shafts and such, the carb kits fit one series or the other, usually with some extra parts thrown in so as to fit the various permutations.

Probably one of the knowledgable number gurus will contribute a specific ID from the numbers.

I'd guess it a 192 industrial engine, but I'd think it would have the big carburetor.

Edit to add: I'd post this to the Ford forum above for better visibility....
