You will get differing opinions on this one. A
2 bottom 14" plow was made to be uses with the N tractors.

You could also buy a single bottom and a three bottom for use with the N Tractors.

If your 9N is in decent shape and you are not plowing in hard clay soils, your tractor should handle the 2-14 all right.

Most people still using the N"s for plowing are using the 2-14"s.

In the early 50's the family pulled 2-14's with the 9N. Was too young to make any judgement, but in retrospect that was quite a load. Used the same plow with a Ford model 640 which replaced the 9N, and the 640 worked pretty hard. I would suggest no more than 2-12's.

I have had a 9n for years and had a 2-16 plow for it. I always thought it was a 2-14 but when I sold it we measured it and it was 16's. It really worked the tractor a lot and did a pretty poor job. I honestly believe that the best plow for any N series tractor would be a 1-16 plow. It would pull it very fast and straight and you would be able to do a much better and cleaner job. The tractor would be much more able to handle it. If you can just put the plow in the ground and go you can do a much better job than if you are getting stuck or having to back up or having it overwork the tractor. Just put the one bottom in the ground and go 5 mph and don't even have to look back. They sell them at TSC brand new. If I ever get another one I am going for the one bottom.

They were designed for a 2x-14. That works best in most soils. A 2x-16 will work if you have good ground.

Evidently the majority of people in the US have very light and friable sand or loamy soils. However, here in eastern KY, 90% of the soil is clay and there is no way this side Hell, that a 9N Ford is going to successfully pull 2 bottoms. If you had 2-12" and pulled in first gear...you might get by as long as conditions were perfect. Now.....who wants to poke along in 1st gear and how often are conditions perfect?

A single 16" would be perfect.....easier to pull, kinder on your clutch and you"re not out to win any speed contests anyway.

There never was a 3 bottom made for the N tractors, they did not come out till the Ferguson TO 30 and a year later the NAA Ford.
