I was trying to put a new seat on my Ford 3000 and noticed when I removed the old one that the rear bolt did not have a nut. Upon closer inspection the threads appeared to be damaged, so I decided to replace it. The old "bolt" was difficult to remove and required the use of a pipe wrench. The "bolt" was much more complicated than I expected (see attached photo) and I now realize that it is technically a plunger guide pin (C5NN669C) and has something to do with draft control. It looks like it doesn't do much. What would happen if I just used a regular 7/16 inch bolt in this hole to anchor my new seat? Or do I need to replace it?

take a grind wheel to that upper thread area and bring it down a hair till smooth enough to cut thraeds on. then run a die over it and resize to next standard thread.. might get it to go 3/8 fine.

Do like Soundguy says. You most likely won't like the way your hydraulics work if you put a standard bolt in there. After you rethread the bolt, lock 2 nuts onto the newly threaded area and use the outer nut to screw the bolt in place. No pipe wrenches, please.

I took the Soundguy's advice and re-threaded the end of the pin after smoothing on a grinder. The seat has been installed. Thanks to both of you.
