A quick question. On the manifold, mounted to what I think is the vaporizer, is a small tank, maybe the float bowl? Anyway, it’s hard to see in this photo, but coming out at an angle towards the driver is a small universal joint or clevis looking thing. What is this?
I assume something connected to it, but in the several pics I have seen of this style manifold, nothing was connected. I’m just curious is all, thanks for any help.

Well, rats, the link isn't working. Anyway, its a Kingston MD manifold if that helps any.

If I remember correctly, there was a rod connected to that universal that went to the dash so the operator could adjust the needle valve from the seat.

Chuck, That is the needle valve. Fuel goes into the float chamber and the needle valve regulates the amount of fuel that goes through a nozzle and into the vaporizer. This should be open about 1 1/2 turns. This is not exact as all tractors run differently. Once the engine is running use the needle valve to adjust for rich or lean. There is a rod that goes from the needle valve through a hole in the dash so it can be adjusted from the drivers seat.

Thanks, Bob! It's wierd, but I have seen 5 or 6 examples of running tractors with that manifold, and none of them had a connecting rod. Must be something you need to adjust only once in a while.
