Fordson Power major injection pump

All, sorry for posting a fordson question in the Ford section, but I want to be sure to get the right answer. I am looking at a Power Major that is for sale. The seller states that the pump is bad and needs to be replaced. He still has it but I don't think they are too technical. Can most diesel shops rebuild these pumps? If in fact the pump is junk, how hard will a replacement be to find? Does anyone know if a pump off an early 5000 (or other Fordson) will fit? Thanks in advance!

Just a word of warning, check out the rest of the tractor real good. I saw a guy with a tractor with a real bad rod knocking that pulled the carb off, took it apart, put pieces in box. Sold the tractor, claiming he could not fix the carb. Can you imagine the buyer at auction, bragging about "stealing" the tractor, when all he had to do was put in a carb kit, etc. Tom

I don't know about the Major pump, but the Dexta costs between $500 to $900 dollars to overhaul. I doubt a Ford 5000 will fit but I don't know this for sure. I would look at this carefully before buying, as the injection pump on the older diesel tractors can be very expensive to replace or repair. Google will turn up several sites that repair injection pumps and can give you estimates.

I am not a Ford man but I had to look up some information on the injection pumps for the Fordson Majors for another man and was just getting ready to put the book away. Question the man good and hard. What kind of pump problems or why did he think the pump was causing the problem. If the man used good fuel, kept the filters changes major failure of the pump is not real common.Like most tractors made in Europe in that time period those pumps used a pneumatic governor. At this age of the tractor the diaphram in the governor can fail. They will normally run but you will not have any governor action. Those tractors are 50 years and the last one I worked on I had to go to the second dealer because the first dealer did not want to order parts that were not a complete box order. (I needed two of one part and it came in abox of 4 and he would not order it unless I took all four or just took 2 and got billed for all 4. That was 10 years ago.
