Forged Bronze

I have a forged bronze wrench set and a forged bronze socket set. The wrenches go from 1/2" to 4 inches, same for the sockets. What was the exact purpose for these?

Bronze tools were used in places where a stray spark could cause an explosion. Seems like a remote possibilty with wrenches but maybe they were not about to take any chances.

Oh, must be the lack of conductance in bronze then. Suppose these are the tools you would use to work on large propane tanks/boilers, etc.

Not a lack of conductance, bronze conducts heat and electricity really well. They will just not create sparks when used on steel.

Some times there is a need for non-magnetic tools.Many years ago you couldn"t use any tools that were magnetic on Navy mine sweepers because chance of the magnetic field setting off mines if they were left behind or lost while doing repair work. At that time the mine sweepers were made of wood for the most part.

Do they say Berylco on them ? Chances are that they are Beryllium Copper. Yes, sparkproof is the reason. But I have some BeCu hammers and like them , since they are heavier than a similar sized steel hammer. BTW, those are expensive tools.
