Too Darned cold to work outside today (10°), so I hauled the wretched beast in here to the hills where I have some heat.

Got more trailer time than seat time on this ol mama. :>(

Wow that is a nice M. I was wondering the same thing though - where are your chains/binders or at least ratchet straps

We are looking into a F-350 to pull with. Is that a F-350 or a f-250. The truck seems to hold the gooseneck ok.

Wondering I guess if your trailer setup is all you would want it to be.?

I do the same if it is just to town and back. SOme times I chuck a split piece of fire wood in front and back of the tires just for good measure.

if you try that here in illinois and the boys in the pretty white cars with the skid mark down the doors see ya it gets real sad, REAL sad.
They got me doing a short haul from one farm to the next and $1500 worth of paper later I was booming her down and proceeding as planned

I kept 'er under 60 the whole trip tho, so all is well that ends well I guess. It was still on the trailer when I got here anyway. :>)

That's nuttin, you should see his bottle jack/pallet combination for removing front ends.
Evil Knievel got nothin on him. Next picture probably show the jacked up tractor ON the trailer! Really though, I think we are talkin old pics. That front end was sold off that M last month, I do believe, and she sports a narrow front now. Don't give him too much grief. He sulks and the board just ain't the same without him.

Talking about not tying down and hauling on the highway, those pictures are probably evidence the police took as it is sitting along the road.

I have to load/unload out there in the middle of the hi-way because I can't get that trailer threaded up here in the hills during winter. Upside is that there isn't much traffic here.

Gotta drive it in for the last bit of "slick/steep" stuff. Whooie! You think that wasn't a cold ride?! :>(

Don't ever buy real estate in the summertime when it's nice and pretty. Look at it in the dead of winter. :>(

Hi Ya John,

"Safety" was never, ever the point/joke/issue.

Every other tractor forum on the 'Net has been talking for over the past year about the absolute, downright rudeness of people on this site. Folks leaving in droves because of this or that.

A huge discussion ensured this morning as a matter of fact. Heck, I've never noticed it much; I really like this place.

I always attributed the "pointedness" to the younger side being naturally a bit "in your face" or maybe it's 'cause I'm downright "blunt" at times too.

Anyhoo, when this thread took a bit of a foothold, this was on my mind and I was just wondering to myself how long it would take someone to "jab" me like they usually do.

So, I sends an email to my Pard over in Iowa and told him to watch, “Lets see how long this takes.”

Wasn't trying to raise a Rowe. Long winter and I'm trying to get thru it just like everybody else. No harm done, I hope.

PS. Fess up. You didn’t really think I would haul that silly ol' tractor without being tied down, did ya? :>)

Allen, some of these guys wouldn't survive down here fist the crazy temps then how we do things. I've loaded my MM BF on to our trailer and took a 30 tip with only a chain on the front axle and a 2x6 on the back to keep it form rolling off. Thats how we roll down here.

We all work in our own "safety net" and we just have different boundaries is all.

I absolutely HATE haulin' tractors. Just doesn't seem natural to me. Same way with the tractor pullin'. Just doesn't seem right.

But hey! That's just me. :>)

On bumper pull trailers you absolutely must load the trailer tongue heavy like 10% of the total load. Don't know about goosenecks.

If you don't you will probably wind up in an accident and could take adjacent vehicles with you. Was following a friend one day, accidentally as we were coming home from work. He was coming down a hill of about 25 degrees, on an interstate highway, and at the bottom was a bridge. Obviously the bridge was level. He had several concrete culverts of about 2 ft in diameter by 4 ft long, loaded on a 16' bumper pull,tandem, trailer (like most folks buy)and I could see that he was loaded tail heavy. I had just come upon him and was too far back to warn him.

The instant the tandem hit the bridge the trailer started jacknifing side to side to the point where the trailer bashed in both sides of his truck and easily crossed over the hammer lane....thank goodness no cars were there. You just can't believe how fast a trailer can do that unless you see it with your own eyes.

When loading tractors, I drive the tractor on the trailer (tandem) and watch the arse end of the truck. When I see 2-3 inches of settling I stop. Pay little attention to just where it is in relation to the trailer axles.

If loading a light tractor, I just drive it all the way forward. Tongue weight is 500# max on my hitches.

On bumper pulls, what really works great is the tension system that you use on camper trailers. I use it all the time for my flatbed tandem and it really takes the yee-yaw (oscillating up and down at the hitch) out of the combination. Additionally, it relieves some of the tongue load.

it doesnt matter how you load a gooseneck because the way the load is distributed on a the truck but with a tongue trailer you need to load the equipment over the axles to distribute the wieght equally over the truck and trailer

Lets see, a picture of a tractor with no binders, a phrase to the effect of setting the brakes and putting it in gear, not a mention of binders, Slorolls words of a block of wood, should I go on....... My point is he should have spoken up before this got out of hand. Do I think hes dumb enough to accually do that, no BUT he never said he did bind it down until I said something, so in my opinion, and reading facts as they were typed, did he bind it down? I got ticked about it because I watched a man die after a tractor rolled off the back of a trailer going down the road, have you? Its not a pretty site, and I can go into details if you wish, but I dont think you do. My kids lives, and the lives of anybody else, are no joke of any kind when it comes to the negligance or stupidy of someone too dumb to bind down even the smallest of loads.Make a fool out of me if you wish, I really dont care, but when it comes to putting someone elses life at risk, Ill be the biggest fool in the world if it saves a life!

Yepper, I seen 2 of my boys, both 22yrs old with part of thier face blown away by "stupid fools" with a gun !!!! Ya don't want me to go into details!!!! Ya Opened up an old wound!!

Problem is people make too many asumptions.. gets them into trouble...Just as you have done, assuming I would not know what is like to see some get killed...

Im sorry Keith, I didnt mean to upset you. I know what its like as I lost my first wife and 3 month old son to a drunk driver, so yes, I have done the same. I guess we all really do have something in common. I got to keep my faith and know God had his reasons, and as I see my wife sitting o nthe couch watching the morning news, and know my 2 precious sons are sleeping, I know why.
