Front axle bushing

I am in the process of a minor restore project of my TO-20.. I noticed that the front axle pivot pin is very worn so I figured that I would go ahead and replace it.. All these different web sites have the pivot pins and bushing listed for sale for the front axle, but when I got my pin out I did not notice that there was a bushing any where to be seen.. Do all TO"s have bushings in the front?? If so would it be in the acutal hole that is in the axle or the front or back part of the axle carriage?? Any help would be appreciated.. THANKS

I replaced mine a month ago. There are two bushings for these. One is supposed to be split and the other has a flang. The first one I was sent had the flang and would not fit without boring (drill) it out. The second one did not have the split as the original but did fit. I have the flanged one on hand if you want it. If the bering is completly gone that might be the way to go. That would save you from trying to build up the existing hole. I was informed the proper way to lube this pivit point is with graphite.

Using oil or grease collects dust from fan and wears pivit point faster than using no lube at all.

That was my understanding so I lube my TO-35 axle pivit with graphite.

Also check hub bearings while you are at it. Most old tractor hubs have not been greased in years.

You are correct - the service manual specifies graphite lubricant. That is why I stated: "[i:3315421627]Ignore the grease nipple/zerk in my axle.[/i:3315421627]"

My tractor came with the grease nipple/zerk.

Keith, the pivot pin between serial numbers 12432 and 13171 is 3-3/4" long and has a 17/32 inch hole. On most TO tractors between numbers 31835 and 40842 the pin had a larger bolt hole to accept a 7/16 X 1-1/4" bolt over which a bushing and washer had been fitted. On tractors after 40380 a 5/8" bolt and bushing was installed. This change requires a pivot pin with a 7/8" hole. Check to order the right one. Are we all thoroughly confused now? LOL Richard

I see the serial numbers you have listed but my serial number is 20603 which pin should I use for this model of tractor?? Should this have a bushing in the axle or no bushing...

Keep checking that little bolt in front.I have just had the front lower it self because the bolt came out,makes a nice mess of the fan and radiator.
