front axle support

The holes in my axle support are egg shaped. I have some 1/4 inch metal with the exact size holes i need for the pin. my question is would it be ok to weld this metal on either side of the axle to the inside of the axle support?

There isn"t much room - you might be able to get 1/4 between the axle and support. The problem comes when the wheels are moved in and the radius rods move the axle forward. I tried to use a longer pin holder bolt with a nut inside the support (the threaded hole in the support had been wallowed out) and there wasn"t room.

Mine (TO-20) were egged at the top; I got a welder to run a couple of beads to replace the metal then ground it back round, really tightened up the pin. Hope this helps you.
