Front end loader for a 9N

How hard is it to find and install a front end loader for my 1941 9N?

Would the price of one scare me off?

That is pretty much and open ended question. I have seen loader go for as little as $100 and as high as $3000. As for mounting it it depends on what you have on hand and how much you know. I can install one in an hour or 2 but I also have other tractors with loader and have chain hoist etc etc

I bought my 8N with a loader, and it ran the price up a few hundred over other comparable local tractors. It looks like at least a two-man job to remove it, and that assumes you have an engine hoist, or an A-frame. Putting one on is going to be even more fun, but the hydraulics and connection to the engine don't appear all that complex.

I have one, came from family with tractor. Am still looking for another one with complete hydraulics as mine is lacking front pump. The price usually is not bad. The trick is finding one close enough to you at a price you can afford with shipping. Most of them seem to be on the east coast. Also, either have a counterweight of some sort on back or hope the power steering fairy pays you a visit. A loader on an N without P/S can cause problems. JMHO

Kevin, good pics. It looks like the loader attaches to the front axle and effectivly eliminates any 'axle pivot' - correct ?

I'm not sure. You could be right. I haven't had it long enough to have spent that much time seeing how it all goes together. I think it actually bolts on underneath the frame, and doesn't impinge on the front axle movement. I can't tell from the pictures, but I'll see if I can figure it out.

I need the loader to move some fallen trees around, but I'm considering removing it, afterwards. It's heavy, and really makes it hard to steer.

I recently took mine off my 8N to do some brush hogging. Took about 45 minutes. I tied a pole between 2 trees and used a chain hoist to lift the weight off the tractor and then backed out from under it. It will probably be a little more involved re-mounting it but I'll get it done.

I found a loader for my NAA in a roadside thicket. The owner let me have it, and an included snow plow for $150.00. It needed some welding and a front mount fabricated. That was $250.00. I then did a modification to the NAA Hydraulics to get a remote hook-up. A used control, new fittings, and hoses were about $180.00. Then I found one hydraulic cylinder was toast. Another $100.00.
So I am into it for around $700.00. I don't regret a thing. The loader comes in far handier than I ever imagined and I have a snow plowing rig for the winter. Added weight to the rear (500lb) and it steers just fine.

Finding one shouldn't be too hard but the location will be your issue. Mounting is not bad but it's work.

I bought my 2N with a loader on it. To remove it I use an old wooden swing A-frame and I lift it off with a bottle jack and a nylon strap. I then just back out from under it. It's a handy thing to have at times. Makes life rough on the front end components on the tractor. It will give you better arm strength when moving a bucket full of anything around.

I have seen a few at tractor salvage yards but they tend to be pricey there. Ebay is an option as well as Crag's List. Getting one with a pump is key. Also getting one that has a cylinder on the bucket makes it easier to use.

Looks to me like it bolts up to the front axle support as is common with the Wagner loaders. His appears to have the later style hanger that doubles as a pump mounting point. Makes it easier to R&R the loader - the pump stays with the tractor. Should be pretty easy to remove it if you have an overhead hoist.
