front end loader id, and introduction

hi folks! my name is robert. i live in cortland, ohio. five minutes from mosquito lake.

we have a 1951 ford 8N that we use on our land for light farm use and so on. we picked up a front end loader earlier in the spring and i know that it is going to be time to eventually install this bad boy.

here's the problem, i have not found a manufacturer's tag on this loader at all. i've attached some photos of the loader. it is sitting on a trailer at the moment.

i need to some up with the shaft to drive the pump. it has a hydraulic pump mounted towards the front of the loader.

any ideas who made this thing? thanks!

Welcome to the forums!
Pictures didn't come through for me, probably part of the new user thing.
You have to have a few post before you can add pictures.
You will need more than just the shaft unless your tractor had a
loader on it before this one.
You need a crank shaft pulley designed to hold the adapter, and
the adapter itself that the shaft fits into.
Kits are available from many sources, probably even here on YT.
Last one I put in was on a 9N, and it required removing the front
axle and bolster to get to the front of the engine to put it on.
They're good light duty loaders, but without power steering you're
not going to be doing a lot of work with them.
Also make sure you check out the front axle pivot pin and steering
regularly. Loaders really put a strain on them since they weren't
really designed for that kind of use.
I have a loader on 2 of my N's, they work fine.
Just be reasonable and safe!

thank you! i uploaded the full size photos and posted links to them.

hopefully that helps!

thanks!

Looks very much like a Wagner WM-xx loader but not any of the models I am familiar with. Perhaps a later step through follow-on model. In any event the pump drive is pretty much generic:
  • [*:5adccc9ae9]Aftermarket crankshaft pulley - p/n 192160[*:5adccc9ae9]Splined hub - p/n 192161[*:5adccc9ae9]Splined drive shaft - p/n 194354[*:5adccc9ae9]Flex coupler - p/n L601-14[/list:o:5adccc9ae9] Figure about $200 for the complete drive assembly. You will also need the front hanger bracket if it did not come with the loader.

  • TOH, is all of this stuff available through YT? I don't believe that I have the front hanger bracket. Is that available or could something be fabbed?

I do have a disc with 4 holes and sleeves. I am guessing that this is the flex coupler?

I would appreciate the offer to email that manual, i think it was Richard Larsen? My email is [email protected]

    Thanks!

Yes - all of the parts are available her as well as from dozens of other vendors. I make and sell the front hanger - $50 + $11 flat rate shipping and I can also provide the other items if you want to go for one stop shopping ;-)

Dan, got your email. thanks!

i recognize the pivot pin plate. what is the other plate for?

thanks again!

robert

The U-shaped bracket was a later version of the Wagner front hanger used on the 8N tractors. It replaced the axle pin version used on the 9N/2N tractors. I was making them for a while but decided they were not worth the trouble - the 9N/2N design works fine on the 8N and is actually a bit more robust.
