Front mount snow blower

Hey All,
Wondered if I might enlist the help of the
group.....I have a rear mount snow blower that I
would like to convert to a front mount.......I got
the first part....I have a Souder front mount
plow....and it will be a piece of cake to hang the
rear mount on the plow carriage.....what I need
is some detailed pictures of the drive system
and the gear boxes from the PTO......up to a front
mounted blower so I can get an Idea of how to
construct the drive....and what parts I would
need to put together for the mission......I would
appreciate any pictures to help in this
project.....Thanks!!

Is you snowblower a pull-type or a "back into the snow" unit?

If it is a "back into the snow" unit, likely, you will need a gearbox to reverse the rotation of the PTO shaft going forward to match that of the blower as turned around. Or set up the chain drive at the rear to reverse the rotation of the shaft going forward.

y initial reaction is you are going to have obstruction issues with the Souder subframe. It is dead center in the way of your PTO going forward....

mabey try powering the snow blower with its own seperaet engine . advantages of having livepower to the blower, you could also throttle your tractor engine speed and clutch to control ground speed.

Good observation TOH,
It had occurred to me also.....the only thing that gives me hope is
that years ago I saw a unit on an older Ford 2000......wish I would
have thought to take a few pictures.....A shaft came out of the PTO
to a gearbox.....90 deg.....to another gearbox .......forward to some
kind of axel mount....then on to the blower......seems there was
enough daylight between everything.....but assuming I can pull it
off.....it is going to take some strategic planning ...to be sure.....still
hoping to come up with some close up pics of something on an old
Ford.......planning this for an 861.......blowing backward is killing
my upper back and neck....a real bear getting old!!!

The Souder subframe vee's out from the center under axle mount but offsetting the gear or chain drives to the side front and rear may get you enough clearance for the shaft. A LOT of front mounted snow bowers are run using that scheme. All you should need is some time. money (probably more than a little ;-) ), and some fabrication skills. Personally I'd be thinking about how I might drive it off the front of the engine althiugh teh frame is still likely to be in the way....

I had one of the Souder loaders and sold the bucket and lift components to a guy who needed them. Kept the subframe for mounting a Myers snow plow that fell into my hands. Another project waiting to be done....

Why not a PTO hydro pump and hydraulic motor on the blower? No gearboxes, drive-shafts, rotation or clearance issues. Just a thought.

Maybe. Gonna need 15-20+ GPM @ 3000 PSI nearly continuous flow and 40 HP if it is a decent size blower.. The valve, 10-20 gallon tank, pump, hoses, etc is pushing the price tag over a grand... Easy hookup though....
