Front Tires? Brands, sizes etc.

My 255 is in desperate need of new front tires. Currently, it is wearing well rotted and bald Firestone Tri-ribs 6.5-16.

Is there any reason why I couldn't move to a 7.5-16 in a 4 rib pattern? No loader on the tractor. I have been reading/researching and many say that the thinner tri-ribs provide great steering, but tear up sod pretty good. I am looking for more flotation via a wider tire if possible.

Any ideas how wide of a tire I can put on the Original rims without rubbing issues? Without breaking down the tire I am not sure on the wheel size but I am thinking i have 6x16 wheels.

Recommendations on tire brands? Titan, Firestone, BKT, other...

Size considerations? I would assume that a 7.5-16 tire would easily mount on a 6 inch wheel.

Suggestions/opinions welcome.
Thanks

Probably get varied opinions. Tire selection
for intended use a factor. If you use
tractor on pavement, gravel, hard surfaces
many folks I know use truck tires. For me
they don't work well and slide too much on
turns. I use tractors for haying, grass
mowing, loading bales, all on grass fields,
and snow scraping. Tri ribs work best for me
for turning. On my 265 I prefer 7.5 x 15
size fronts, works great. Last year my tire
guy put on Samson tires, not sure yet how
long they will last. Have put Firestones in
past, and on the 165 fronts they've lasted
8 yrs so far, but only use 250 hrs per year
on that tractor. Not sure the 7.5 with 16
inch rim will fit you. The 15 inch rim will
work for 7.5. Others here may know.

To clarify I meant 7.5 with 15 inch rim
works good, if you stick with 16 inch rim
the 7.5 x 16 may not work good. The 7.5 x 16
tire is also a few inches bigger diameter
than the 15 inch rim and will sit front
higher, could be bad geometric set up. Good
luck

Thanks.....unfortunately I have already ordered new 5.5x16 wheels and 7.5-16 titan 4 rib tires. I hope they work.

The tractor has 16.9-28 on the rear. Hope I didn't make a mistake as everything had to be ordered on the internet.

I should have waited for more suggestions but I jumped the gun.... yikes

So you got me thinking so I figured I would do a comparison. Hoping that I didn't make a mistake.

As I mentioned I ordered 7.5-16's for the front and my current tires are 6.5-16.

Here is a comparison via the manufatcure's wesite

Original Tires:
Firestone Champion Guide Grip 6.5-16 Tri-Rib
Width = 7.0 inches
[b:f5c803c249]Height = 30.4 Inches[/b:f5c803c249]
Rolling circumference = 88 inches

New Tires:
Titan Tru-Trac 7.5-16 Multi rib FM2
Width = 8.6 Inches
[b:f5c803c249]Height = 31.3 Inches[/b:f5c803c249]
Rolling circumference = 93 inches

So it looks like the tires are less then an inch difference in height. I am hoping this wont throw anything off.

It's not going to change anything.

Thanks PT....

Speaking of wheels/tires. I assume the proper color for the wheels on my 255 is "Silver Mist". Is this correct? The engine, chassis and other gray parts are "Flint gray Metallic"?

Does anyone know where I can get rattle cans of Silver mist Metallic. Preferably online? Figured I might as well paint my wheels before I get the tires mounted.
