front wheel bearings

I need someone to confirm my mistake. I'm replacing the front wheel bearings on a 700 series ford. I inadvertantly ordered bearings for a 701 series. I couldn't get the bearing cups to fit. I went back to try and research and all I had to go by were the pictures of the two sets which look almost identical. Is the diameter of the cups/bearings what makes the differnce between the two? Trying to learn. Thanks for any help.

According to this site-----the bearings should fit either the 700 or 701.

Tim ---still learning too

I think the clue there is "with S/N 137817 and up". I'm not sure, but I think this was discussed a few months ago, and it was decided that there ARE two sizes.

I saw that clue as well....have not had time to look at the SN on my 860....but I would bet you are right...

I looked yesterday for another wheel bearing set, for serial numbers below 137817 and did not see anything....I don"t believe the N series bearings can be used either.

Some brief info I saw indicated that there was a difference between the '54 and earlier and the '55 and later. I think it was in the hub, which could account for a different bearing.
