Fuel filter leak

Hi. My 1700d started throttling up and down, and down got lower, and then it died. I pulled the hose coming from the diesel tank, assuming something got stuck, but fuel flowed handily. I cleaned the fuel filter, bled the screws, and after some doing, it fired back up. Smoky at first, but cleaned out and ran. Moved some logs with it, then parked it, and let it run for a while. After about 5 minutes, started throttling down, and then dying.

When I loosed the band and removed the hose from the filter on the tank side, the hose actually stuck on the intake tube and the tube itself came out. The tube sticking out of the left side of the filter head in the attached photo. Gotta assume air keeps getting in that way. Before I buy a new unit, can the tube be JB Welded in, or similar? I don't mind buying if needed, but with the front end loader on getting to anything is a chore. Thanks.

If the tube will slide back in, I would JB weld it. Clean real well with lacquer thinner or acetone

Sure, because there's minimal pressure and vibration there. But I'd glue washers to the shoulder where the metal tube inserts so there'll be more adherence surface for the tube. (I think JB is simply a standard two-part epoxy with grey coloring. I use dollar-store 5-minute epoxy and add successive layers.)

Just an update.

1 - A friend who is a hit and miss engine fanatic (who is helping me fire up a 1937 Maytag 92 washer motor), like you all, assured me the JB Weld does not get harmed by diesel.

2 - I emailed a link to this thread to a life-long farm equipment fixing friend who lives about 30 miles south of me, and asked him for feedback. He replied that he thinks he has a solution. Few days later he shows up with a near match to the 1700 fuel filter housing. Don't think he does Yanmar, so maybe off a John Deere. Anyway, it's in and the tractor is running fine.
