Fuel prices....again!

When any of us go to refuel, are there any long lines? Do we only get to fuel up on odd days with an odd-numbered license plate? Does anyone here have a book of ration coupons?

Apparently, supply is able to keep up with demand. If that sufficient supply is in higher demand, market forces are going to increase the price point. Drillers, refiners, distributors, and retailers are not complaining one bit lately. Perhaps online ordering a single head of Mexican lettuce for delivery every weekday has more than one consequence. I'm old enough to remember when only US postal trucks were on the road daily (burning CNG), and back then seeing a UPS or FedEx truck was a novelty, and not a rolling traffic jam as it seems to be today. I suppose THAT has no effect on fuel utilization, either. There are more Amazon, FedEx, DHL, and UPS vehicles on the road than there are school busses. Perhaps all that "convenience" comes with a cost, and now we pay for it in the field.

If you think about it, most cars get at least 25mpg. Gas price,,$5/gallon. So for $5.00 you can move car, 4 people, 10 bags groceries and the kids soccer gear 25 miles down the road.

That just doesn’t seem like a big deal compared to other things. After all your morning Starbucks costs you more than that.

Now-a-days the cost of groceries hurts even more than the cost of gas. Ten bags of groceries every week or two for a family of four could cost almost as much as the car payment or the mortgage payment.

I agree, if the cost of gas was the only thing that has gone up so much that would still be very manageable for most people.

Unfortunately the cost of almost everything else is also going up just as fast: groceries; health insurance (if you still have it); interest payments; manufactured items whether they are imported or not; etc. Higher gas prices are just the straw that broke the camel's (consumer's) back.

Obviously those that have portfolios are only irritated by all the high and increasing day to day expenses. Win some here loose some there. Those that can influence policies are driven by who they think is important not who they say is important.

For those living closer to the bone, full tank of gas twice as much and climbing, every single thing higher every time you buy, there are not a lot of options.

If buzz phrases designed to tickle your fancy are more important than looking into a different philosophy don't expect anything to change. Just keep on paying more and more. Like a frog in a pot of hot water.

Yes, the supply of gas and oil is adequate in the USA at least for now, the strategic reserve has nearly been pumped empty.

We are in a world wide market for oil. People across Asia and Europe are having real shortages of fuel and oil now due to the sudden disruption of in their supply line. They have bid up the price of oil to meet their demand for oil. That has increased the price of oil world wide including in the USA.

In the 70’s people sold their clunkers and bought a 4 cylinder Toyota to conserve gasoline.
Today while they may complain or use the situation to blame someone they didn’t like in the first place they continue to fill their 3/4 ton grocery getter with diesel and pay for a cell phone and internet on top of that.

Hmmm. That marathon price looks cheap now! Think I have maybe 10 or 12 decent 5 gal cans acumulated over the years. I know I have enough 2 1/2 gal spray jugs clean to use. I need around 70 gals of diesel. Think I will throw them in back of my pick up and run there. Will save a whole lot more than it cost to go there instead of buying here.

This is a great plan! I was thinking a 90 mile round trip wasn't worth the savings on 33 gallons in the truck......I think I have several five gallon buckets with lids I can fill ,too.

Well sir.......you have to include the fact that transportation charges, all the way from the farmer preparing his field for a crop are part of the equation....even in NYC, to get groceries and other necessities takes manpower and energy expenditure.
