Fuel tap turns

Hi!
How many turns should the fuel tap be turned to be fully opened? I have seen some turn a few turns and some up to 20 turns. Is this supposed to be turned more than half a turn? Like a ball valve.

Some are designed to open 2 full turns for full flow, and then turn all the way out to use the Reserve in the tank left at two turns. These types have a standpipe in the tank that only opens at the very bottom once you turn the valve all the way out. I don't know if yours works like that or not. steve

I don't remember for certain, but this is a diesel, isn't it? (You really should include such info.) I will say it should be full open to the stop. I don't see the type holding reserve gallon or two in the tank would be very helpful on with a diesel, and I think those types were incorporated with sediment bowl assemblies. It appears this goes direct to the primary fuel filter, looking at the diesel parts book.
