Fun find book

A buddy of mine gave me a book called "The Operation, Care, and Repair of Farm Machinery", 23rd edition. It was published by John Deere and was intended to be used as a text book for Ag teachers. I can't find a copy right date but the logo and pictures of tractors suggest it was published in the late 40's. It's been a real hoot to read and talks about and shows pictures of some implements I have never seen or even heard of. The cultivator mounted planter is one of my favorites as is the disk plow. Fun reading if you should ever come across one. Neat to see what was considered "big" equipment for the "large" farm back then.

I also have one of those books and have enjoyed reading it. The funny thing is that I still farm with some of that equipment...

Ooh yes those old books are fun stuff to look at,, I have been cleaning my attic out a little at a time the last few weeks, and I found a stack of those "Fundamentals of Equipment" books from the 70"s, and a few mid 60"s Farm Journals that are neat,, I also found a Precision 494 corn planter still in the box that I forgot about...I brought it over to the shop and hooked it to my 720 this morning...

My toy find.. Fun Stuff...

I believe those books were used in High School Ag classes from the late 1920"s to the mid 1950"s. I have a full set. Real neat stuff.

I have my copy of "The operation care and repair of
farm machinery" that I had as a textbook in 1957.
Mine is the 28th edition.

Was that a hard covered book? Not overly large? I think that's what I have upstairs, without going to look and see what they are. I have several of them. Some showing the unstyled A's and whatnot.

Yes I was thinking those tire chains were a bit out of place,, I had them on with my rear blade,, I have planted before with our old 720 wishing the heat houser was on...

I think there were 28 editions. The first was in 1927 and the last
was in 1957. All were alike except the last two. They were larger
and had different covers.

Very interesting books. The only problem is I had hands on
knowledge of most of the equipment mentioned. Have gotten old
but it sure was fun.

I spent years trying to make a complete set of the Operation, Care and Repair books. I've accumulated several duplicates over the years. If anyone is looking for a specific edition, please post some contact info and I'll see if I can help?????
