I bought a cub a while back, wasn't running, missing parts. Got it fixed and sold it. Couple very distinct parts on it, front ' bumper ' homemade grill, odd headlights. 6 months later it's listed for sale on line, different person and town than who I sold it to. Ad says family owned tractor, grandpa used it in the garden for years! Lol. I know that ain't true, we bought the tractor from out of state. I asked the seller a few questions, became clear real fast that they didn't have a clue.

When I flip a tractor, I'm upfront about it. I tell the buyer that we bought it not running and tell them what all we did to it. No need for them to do a tune up and change fluids if we already did all that.

Do you guess they bought it strictly with the intent of reselling it? Or just decided it wasnt what they wanted? Dave

Reminds me of the Andy Griffith episode about selling the old cannon. Opie learned from Andy it was important to have a good story to go along with what someone was selling.

It's hard to say. I've found along time ago, to only take what people say in thier ads with a grain of salt.

And sometimes people are just ignorant. I don't know how many times I've seen an old guy die off, and the kids/grandkids begin liquidating the stuff. And all of the sudden, everything the old man had, he had boughten new and had had for years. Even stuff that he had borrowed and never returned. Been there, and seen it happen a few times.

I think the horse people take the cake though. If you want to hear some far out stories, shop around for buying a horse. Some of those people can tell some real doozies.
One guy I know, came up with his own jig when it comes to selling a horse, kind of as a joke. When asked if the horse he has for sale can be ridden, he'll say (Well I think you can ride it), then he'll grin and say (but, I know that I CAN'T). He says that as a joke, but what people say out there, is basically that bad when it comes to buying a horse.

There is an auction page on Facebook here in Alabama folks sell a bunch of cows. Lots of crazy claims, 'friendly', ' eats out your hand', 'my kids raised it ,and the picture clearly shows an auction sticker on the cows rump!! Usually a poor looking cow.....

One thing about it.. they are the ones that have to sleep at night knowing the web they are weaving. For many this is not a problem, this is likely one of the many reasons scam calls, scam adds etc. are so plentiful. You reap what you sow, enough said..

Reminds me of when one of mine got stolen. We checked the lcoal scrap yards even going out as far 100 miles, kept an eye on clist, before bookface and larketpalce, and local papers, even here on YT and a few other sites. After 7 months we found it, about 10 miles away. Ad was something like, Used this morning, gramps used it for yeats with npo issues, yada, yada, yada. Asked all the usual questions. Fianlly asked for a test drive. I had no intentions of it going back, I was just going to drive it on home, but I stopped and flipped out the cell and called the sherriffs office and told them the deal, and I drove it on home then with police in tow. The guy who claims he bought it from someone else never did any time, but he knows I know he stole it from me.

If the person selling it now is a different person and location from the one he sold it to, it's likely been flipped at least once since he sold it.

I don't get where people think telling stories is going to make what they're selling more valuable. Unless the buyer is an absolute fool, they're only going to pay what they're going to pay. In my experience first thing 95% of buyers do is try to lowball me on my price.

Selling horse people hay is bad enough - buying or selling those people a horse is a headache I never hope to deal with.

Or they're just not all that smart and think that they're selling it for more than they paid, they're making boatloads of money.

I've known some self proclaimed tractor jockeys that pay way too much, dont factor in trucking sell for barely more than they paid and wonder why they are losing money.
