Mechanic at work. For 10 years I didn't know his name. He was called smudge. Best one we had though. He retired a few years ago. Ones we have know are afraid to get dirty! Semi truck mechanics.

Yep! Have known several! I've been there myself!

One, I went to school with, he earned the name 'Pigpen'!

One time he did the usual, drained the oil from a car without using a drain pan, just drain it on the floor, roll in it, leave it for someone else to clean up!

Boss told him if he did it again he was fired!

So next time he used a drain pan. But left the pan under the car, ran over it, drug it out the door and ran over it again!

He went on to be the lead mechanic and general manager of a boat repair shop! I can only imagine the quality of work that came from that place!

The thing that one doesn't think about when working under hazardous conditions is what impact ones employment will have on them in their senior years. Lots of ambulance chasers make a good living rounding those folks up...

And then there's SV.....he just keeps going and going and going...........he just keeps amazing me at his energy and determination, tasks he has setup for himself at his age......thinking nothing about it. Utterly amazed and a role model for sure.........but for me that's as far as it goes.......the model stage. Grin........ I'm enjoying my creature comforts and taking it easy....easier.

I was never that bad. I didn't try to get dirty, but I got dirty enough. What I think of now is a totally naive 18 year old bride trying to deal with a mess she had never seen before. Then after a couple of years the babies started in. All old fashioned cloth diapers to be washed by hand, then run through the washer. I don't remember exactly when, but I think after our first year together we had our own washing machine. So it got the greasy shop clothes and diapers. Now, of course, the guys in the same shop have uniforms maintained commercially, and a lot better working conditions.

I have a nephew that is absolutely a grease magnet. If he gets anywhere close to any object with oil or grease on it, he will end up with grease or oil on his clothing and his person. Never fails no matter where he is, what he is doing or what he's wearing.

I remember looking just like that once, I was doing an in frame on an old Cummins 220.

The vehicle it was in had a front differential, you could lower the oil pan about a foot and a half but you couldn't get it out.

I'm like that if you can see oil or grease around it will jump off on to me. does not matter what I'm wearing either. If you want me to stay clean you set me in the china cabinet after it is dusted. Might work.
