Ihave a u with m/5 blocks can i put a g crank and still use my u rods and just buy new pistons if that will work. Or would i be better off buying bottom end of a engine already done

the only way you can use the u rods is to offset grind the crank to the u rod size. the g crank has bigger rod journals. the only other way to do it is get g blocks and g rods and put them in your engine with the g crank and it will make it a 403 but alot of places wont let you pull with tall blocks.

The G crank has to be (offset) ground to fit narrowed up U rods. Pistons are available up to 4.81 bore with the proper height. The stroke would be 6.188". This gives you 449 cubic inches. The only real big expense is the price of the pistons.

You can also bolt in a complete 403 engine if rules allow.

You can use Detroite 4-71 rods and international v-605 pistons then you dont have to grind the crank. Lot less expensive than custom piston and regrinding the crank not as many cubes but a lot cheaper.
