I"m impressed with all the info you guys have. I have been around MM"s all my life, but never anything too big. Last year I bought a 1355 and pulled a 6-16 plow very nicely, even though the "green" guys said it wasn"t big enough. My question is, can I pull a 25" mulch/finisher, or should I be looking for a 19"? I"m freshening up the motor right now (to keep from burning over a quart of oil an hour) so I hope to be ready in the spring to continue to show the "green" guys what a real tractor can do.
Thanks for your input.

Kurt, let me know what kind of snags you run into on your 1355. I am in the process of "freshening up" one also. I have said many times so far "wow those engineers were thinking on this" then thirty seconds later cussing them for all its worth! The 585 is a neat motor compared to the older Lanova style engines, but they could have thought some other things through first. Can't answer your power question though, havent had one in the field...yet!

I have no idea what soil types you are on but I took schrockys G1350 out this fall on fairly heavy clay silt and pulled his onland white 7-18 in 2nd gear hi at about 4.5 mph. Never broke into a sweat. A lot of fun to say the least !I would think your mulch finisher should be no problem.

My biggest snags have been caused by people that should never be allowed to own a great machine like this. For starters, I pulled out the original air cleaner (1974 stamped on the end), when over-hauled in the past they obviously put it back together dirty as the rod bearings had deep grooves in them, a main bearing cap had the threads stripped at some point, and someone was too cheap to buy the correct guides. They drilled them in the wrong location, and ground the seats to match. $600 later (on the heads alone) they are right again. Now I have to try to remove 2 broken pan bolts and re-drill and tap another one that they butchered before. Oh the joys of correcting anothers mistakes. Seriously, other than the cold temperatures, and the hope I don"t destroy the washer with my grease and solvent soaked clothes, it has been a great experience for me.

Show off those big yellow ones, and keep them working. We restored this big G-1355 about two years ago, dropped a turbo on it and is pulling about 180Hp without a breath of smoke.

Have fun and show us some pictures when you are done.

If what your talking about is like a Krause 6200 soil finsher they recomend 10 horsepower per foot.We wanted to pull 30' with 265 horsepower but haven't did it yet.We pull 30' field cult. with no problem, wso don't know if there the same. Our tractor is a 4wd

It was an aireasearch charger that was designed for a 1486 IH tractor. We fabbed up the mounts and put it togeather ourselves, worked out nice and gives lots more high end power to the engine. We dynoed it at 180 HP when the engine was getting broke in and it is probably pushing a little more now that it has a few hours on it.

Brings that 585 to life.

Thanks Shep for posting pictures. I know it is a little time consuming but I sure enjoy them. Wish that anybody who had a G1355 would do this every once in a while Thanks

I have a 1355 I use for tractor pulling. I have not done much but install a garrett T4 with 2.6 inlet turbo, and an a pump from a 2670 case. I pull in 5 gear high. It will make about 50 lbs of boost. It blows a little smoke as well. When I can I am going to see if I can get some more out of it with some bigger injectors and lines, along with a few other things.
