Galv Gate

Will enamel stick to galvanizing? Any special prep? I have an old gate that I'd like to paint either JD green or barn red.

You might have to clean it with paint pre-wash, then sand and paint it with Zinc-chromate, then paint it.

There is a special primer for galv. metal.

Wipe it down real good with vinegar before painting. We had galvanized rain gutter at the old house & wanted to paint it so it would look nicer. My grandfather told me to sand it, wipe it down with vinegar, let dry, primer & paint it. That paint (oil base) stayed on for years. Grandfather was a professional house painter for many years.
