Garage Floor Paint

(quoted from post at 02:15:00 08/27/08) I have been looking at rust-oleum Epoxy Shield floor coating. Is it any good or is there something better? Thanks
here is always something better or more expensive. U Kote It comes to mind. I believe that is the correct name for some stuff that used to be promoted heavily anyway.
As long as it is 2 part epoxy, and the floor is prepped properly you should be okay with just about any brand.

Steve,
I used Sherwin-Williams brand of two-part epoxy for my garage floor. From what I can tell, Rust0leum is very similar. I am very pleased with the results.

One thing to consider is that the most important thing with these kind of materials, is the preparation, cleaning, etching, etc., per what the MFR calls for to get a strong bond.

2 weeks ago I did my lania and back (covered) porch with that epoxy-kote stuff. I got it at lowes.. best price i could find.. i use dthe 'Tan" or 'sand' color.. no plastic flakes either.

I also used the epoxy-kote brand grit modifier so the floor wasn't slippery ( 1-bag per gallon ).. and I used the epoxy-kote acid wash on the concrete, as per the directions. I had just previously pressure washed the crete with simple green to remove any oils.. then let the acid foam up and washed down a few times. and allowed to dry.. Just trim her out.. mix the paint.. and intermix all gallons to ensure same color.. get the roller and go. frequent stiring helps keep the grit addative suspended.. I used 2 coats. I trimmed out first.. then did and cracks.. and then rolle dit on, allowed to tack up, and then rolled the 2nd coat on different direction than the first.. after I was able to walk on it... looks great.

Forgot to add.. if cost is an issue.. walmart has a garage floor paint for 16$ a gallon.. vs the 25-35$ per gallon for the other brands.. liek the epoxy-kote..

Used the Rust-oleum product on my workshop floor. It was virgin concrete that had cured for a month. Followed the preparation directions EXACTLY. Cleaned the floor, etched it...lots of water...a real backbreaker of a mess. Got it done and put the paint down including the color chips. 2 years later it still looks great (almost brand new). I"ve run my tractor on to it w/ chains during the winter, spilled battery acid, gasoline, oil, brake fluid (I"m something of a klutz), and likely several other things that I"ve forgotten. I"ve dragged table saws across it (no wheels) and have dropped my anvil on it (that one chipped it a little....it was only about a 6 inch "fall").

Bottom line: it"s a great product. I used 2 kits on a 24X30 floor. It"s held up well, and cleans up easily.
