Garden Tractor Suggestions??

Hello All, I am looking to purchase a garden tractor but I dont know what kind to get. I either want a power king, cub, or a Simplicity. I have found all three for sale. The cub is a 782, and the Simplicty is a 3414. Now I plan on using this said tractor to plow, till and also mow the lawn. What would you all suggest? Also, it would be nice to have a rear pto and 3 point. But if you all would have anyother suggestions, I will be open to them.

It would be very helpful to know how much property you have. I am partial to Power King but, if you have a half acre, it"s probably more tractor than you need. Give us more info on your land and terrain.

Well I am talking well about 7 to 8 acres, Some of it will be my garden. Thats why I am looking for a bigger tractor. But I dont want a fullsize farm tractor, or a cub.

i had a 3414 hydro tractor and it was a very good pice,only two problems and i mowed around 4akc with it the hydro handle is real complepated, next the B/S engine was a little short on HP, it had and probly still is the best mower deck ever put on a garden tractor, and i have had craftsman, cadets, john deeres.all my mowing was in the north woods of michigan.a great 3 point set up, in the 25 years i owened it i only replaced parts on the mower deck

If the lawn has enough open areas I would pick a tractor and then buy a Swisher or Acre Ease pull type mower that you can offset and cut an extra 60" of grass with. Get a finish cut version and not a rough cut.

All of the tractors you are looking at are good. 7 to 8 acres is enough to justify a compact utility. I have a little over 4 acres which I take care of with a Power King. At times, I think my plot is too small for it sometimes. My brother also has a Power King and he has 20 acres. He doesn't farm it but he does garden, plow snow, skid logs for firewood, mow several acres. They can handle more work than what they should be able to. What it boils down to is personal preference. You want hydro or gear drive? You want three point hitch and hydraulics or just a manual lift? Thinking about what you personally want in a tractor can go a long way in helping you to make your decision. You mentioned a little about the Cub Cadet and Sinplicity but you didn't say what the model Power King it is. Do you know the year or any features it may have?

The Simplicity is a good tractor with lots of equipment available at fair prices I also have a 1225 Bolens that is a great little tractor with few belts the equipment runs off a PTO drive like a big tractor and the hydraulics are very strong.Have mine set up with a sleeve hitch on the back.Also have a S14 New Holland with category 0 3pt that is a real nice garden tractor.

I have an older Case (now called Ingersol) that I just love. Mine is a model 446, but they make bigger if needed. It is full hydraulic and it is capable of a 3-pt or sleeve hitch. I use the sleeve hitch and plow my garden, push snow and gravel, etc.

If you can locate one of these used in your area, I would suggest you give it a look. The new ones aren't cheap, but a used one can usually be quite reasonable. I picked mine up used from a dealer for $1400, and that was 10 years ago.

Thanks guys. Well it isnt all grass, sorry about the misleading info. probably 45 of it is. But I will be using this tractor for everything. And no i dont know the model number on a Powerking. I just remeber when I was little my grandpas neighbot had one and it could do about anything. Hydraulics would be nice. Also hydrualics and a 3 point would be nice. The 782 Cub Cadet has good parts avaiblity, plan on putting a fresh engine in it, espicaly if it has a series I Kohler KT17 in it. Small Engine Warehouse offers some good repower kits for most of the Cub Cadet line and others, You can drop up to a 24hp Honda V-twin in that 782. There are many great online resources for the Cub Cadet line, both are great sites, ihregistery.com and ihcubcadet.com if I remember right. I have the one up to the 782, the 982 with a 20hp Onan twin in it.
