Found some STA-BIL gas additive in tin cans in a shop we are cleaning out, will it "get old" or lose its good? ISome have been opened. Thank you

I think that question has been raised here before
and replys indicated that it did have a "life"
Is there anything on the label? I usually buy
fresh in the fall, so nothing around to check on
here..The "Marine" or "Ethenal" versions are
said to have a longer shelf life.

i would think if the cans were still sealed it would be good. i have some VERY old additive that your supposed to put one capfull to 25 gallons of gas. its the best ive ever used..

If the cans are still sealed, it would probably be good. Once the seal is broken, the aromatics would evaporate.

I'd have to wonder, with all the changes that have been made to gas over the years, if it would stabilize today's gas.

Sta-Bil is still sold in stores. Maybe ask them? I'm curious what they say.

I just checked a bottle in the garage:
Gold Eagle Co. 2006

Sta-bil is good for 2 years after opened. If you open the sealed cans the product should be a brite red. If the product is a dark red or a brown color the company recommends buying new. It must be old because I haven't seen it packaged in cans for many years.

This from the manufacturer....

"Thank you for contacting Gold Eagle Co. STA-BIL(r) does have a shelf life of 5 years after manufacture date and 2 years after it has been opened."
