My replacement gas caps came yesterday. They are huge in comparison to the original cap. I have never seen anything like them and certainly have never seen one on a restored tractor. Is anybody using them? I hope it keeps the top of the fuel tank dry because it looks pretty strange!

Starting with the X00 series in 55 they were OEM on all tractors. The new (black ones are some better than the early design) If the tank lips and seat are not warped it will be a dramatic improvement. Jim

I have them on our three Farmalls. The old one went right in the scrap. Nothing like gas dripping on off the tank in a hay field.

Yes, All my tractors have them.

Dean Olson - Looks like there's some black thing on top of your red cas cap. Can't really tell. Is ther something there??

I have traded in a couple of caps. The new ones don't leak, the old ones do. I paint them I-H red though when I get them.

every time i go to my property, i forget to get the numbers to send in, better get with it so i can get them before they run out..

I am thinking it is a gas gauge.

Ordered a new cap last week myself!

The new caps vent better, less chance of bad experience when you take the cap off. That's why you can can get a new one for each serial number when you turn the old cap in.

I have probably got around a dozen of those over the years.Never had a problem.

The 300 has a black gas cap. Never got around to painting it and probably won't due to the black not showing any stains.

The Super H has a gauge type vented gas cap. I painted it red and it discolored around the vent holes. I'll probably paint it black when it gets bad enough to bother me.

If I remeber right IH stated the program of replacing the gas caps in the late 60's or early 70's ( might be wrong on dates) but we had to give them the serial no.and the cap off tractor to get new style cap.

It was after 1966 because my 1966 140 had the old cap. For the first round IH sent out a letter with a form that you had to put down your serial number (on a postcard, I think) and send it back. Then your black cap came in the mail. They never asked for the old cap. It's still on a nail in the tractor shed. I'm guessing very early 1970's.

I assume they were only able to send letters to the owners of newer tractors like my 1966 was then.

We had to take ours to our IH dealer the new one never came to the house. The reason for serial number was so only one cap per serial number. We got 3 of them ( F-20,Farmall B and Farmall M).

They did not request the old cap. The form indicates that they have a vast number of caps available and will continue to provide the new cap for each serial number of the affected tractor models. Mine came within a few days of emailing the form.
