Went thru town this morning amd gas was $4.03 a gallon at all the stations. Came back thru about 2 hours later and one was $3.99, another was still $4.03, and the third was $4.18. I heard that the price crude oil had dropped 10%. Can't figure out why one goes up and another goes down and the other stays the same

Actually in a 3 horse town like that its "free enterprise" as long as they're really in competition (meaning not all owned by the same person/company) they can pretty much charge all they want.

When its a 1 horse town and you've only got the one choice and he raises it way above all the surrounding towns THATS gouging...

Besides which what you gonna do? You wanna drive a big pickumup truck with a big v8 you gotta have gas so you gotta pay.

Biggest reason it is so high, we keep buying it, only when they can,t sell a certain amount at a certain high price will we see it start to come down. Drive less buy less, only way.

Expect gas to be going up. Last week gas futures dropped to just under 3.00 a gallon. As of 6 PM on the 10th, it went up 38 cents in three days to close at $3.38 a gallon. The latest excuse is the Mississippi flood. next week it will be a freak snow storm in MT and the week after FL will get sunny weather which will "make" drivers want to go to the beach.

It's all a joke, with Nymex traders that cannot take delivery on anything making millions at our expense. Oil and gasoline should have never been put on the futures market.

Gas prices do suck real bad.

But....I dont see many people driving 60mph on the freeways, most are doing 70+.

Remember the 55mph all over the nation, then as gas stayed at $1.25 per gallon for years, the speed creeped up to 70mph over time.

I noticed myself driving 60 on the freeway on the way to and from work and it makes a difference. And I am lucky. I have a 4cylinder 31mpg car.

Lots of lead footers around, gotta get there and pass people, save 3 minutes but waste $2 in gas.

Oil WAS down last week.. but did you notice the last two days? Up something like $5+ yesterday and $1+ today. So much for the -10% you're talking about.

Hello ILLEFTY,
Here is $3.859. and has not moved in 3 to 4 days.
Some states are $4 for regular.
Do you know of anyone that gets a discount on gas? With the company card (ExxonMobil), i get 10% off the price of the gas.

Its 4.19 all over town here. The fella at the gas station claimed it was because of the Mississippi River flooding. I asked if he knew when it crested, he said he only adjusted the price as instructed. Makes no sense to me. Every time a speculator sneezes, the gas prices blow.

$3.649 here or was last time I got any which was today. Got $10 worth which was 2.7 gals. Sad that the greed of the oil company's and the speculators drive it up so high. I figure hay prices will have to go up since it will cost a good bit more to bale it this year. I do my best to either drive my wife's car which gets around 35-40 MPG or the motorcycle but like today hard to haul a 2000lbs bale of hay with either one of those so had to drive the 15mpg truck

Heck it would need to go down to 75 cents a gallon before i say its cheap.I think our goverment needs to be replaced bad, Im an old man and the youngsters are in for it and dont know it.

One problem problem is---How many times have you seen two gas stations at an intersection and one has gas 5 Cents higher?
Notice there are just as many buying the higher priced gas!!

Prices dropped a dime or so over the last few days... Were going back up today while I was in town this afternoon >>> $4.199/gallon now. OUCH

works out to $5.50 a gallon here in ontario
way i heard it on the news that it"s the traders driving the price , buying & selling & taking a profit
bob

old, you say you plan to raise your hay prices to cover expenses and make a profit, thats just plain ""greedy"".

I noticed this as well and asked the station owner by my house and he said that they adjust the price based on how much it cost when it is delivered. Which means it will not go down in price until they pay lower for it. At the same time, they do raise the cost without waiting for delivery, and do so based on the market, and the local competition.

Why does everybody blame the traders? Do you want to be communists? The out of control spending is the reason the value of the dollar is falling and gas prices are rising.
You are complaining now? You haven't seen anything yet. In two years gas will be $10 a gallon unless we can change our govt. Ron Paul is our only hope, but the mainstream media will see that he won't be elected.
I happen to be a trader and a speculator. I put all my money in gold, silver and oil. I have to. Otherwise the govt. steals all my money thru devaluation of the dollar.

No it is not I have to raise the price because it is going to cost me at least half again what it did last year. No greed there just having to brake even but then some people can sell there hay for half of what it cost to bale it so are you going to do that??????????????????? Bet not so get off my butttttttttttt

the only way the gas prices are goin to start dropping is we are goin to have to stop using so much of it. i for one am not goin to line the specualators pockets, after spending 100 a week just to an from work i dont have enough to line anyones pockets. i for one dont plan on even pulling my duelly out of the garage, no tractor show, no tractor rides. it just plain cost to much. the boycott isnt goin to work we all know that, they just laugh at that idea. no extra trips is how we are goin to get the point across. i will keep driving my pickups but not as much as i did

We will have an economic collapse and be turned into a 3rd world country when we as a country can no longer use oil. We use oil for almost EVERYTHING these days! Fact is,..there is, and never will be an alternative solution to replace oil.

Water is another concern we all should be thinking about NOW!

"They do raise cost without waiting for delivery"

which means. The fuel sitting in the tank bought at the old price is now being sold at todays higher price thus bringing me in larger profits and ripping you .the motorist, off,
And when they pay lower for it, the price is kept high until the tanks are emptied.
Which means I never lose and you never win.

The seat lumber on my picnic tables cost 3 bucks more this years. It cost 3 gallons of gas to haul the lumber for 5 tables.Im putting 150 bucks worth of parts on my truck so I can keep hauling lumber.Should I sell the tables at last years price?I expect lumber prices will go up because of the tornado damage.

All anyone wants to do is talk about the gas prices, this is not the weather. When enough folks are fed up, something will get done, until then talking big is all that will get done.

I recently read an article that says speculation puts roughly $25 a barrel on the price of crude..Supply and demand doesnt change the price $5 in one day..

If it was a joke then it should have a LOL or some such thing with it so a person knows that. I can not read minds so what is it to you any how or are you LAA also

I should have known you would not recognize the irony in your own statement, while its true you do have to raise prices when your inputs go up so do all of the job creating, tax paying corporations that you are always bashing for being greedy.

Ah but it is a fact that the oil company's have been raking in record profits for over a decade now so how is that bashing when it is in fact the truth no irony just simple plain facts

It's not actually free enterprize, while it may not fit the definition of gouging it does of price fixing. (Price fixing is an agreement between participants on the same side in a market to buy or sell a product, service, or commodity only at a fixed price). And just because there's 3 in a town doesn't mean there's not gouging going on, if they're calling each other to fix the price.

Those are not facts, what you state is absolutely incorrect. From 1983 to 2003 oil prices never broke $30.00 per barrel and were in the mid teens to low twenties for the majority of that 20 year span, as recently as 1999 oil was $9.00 per barrel, from 2004 to 2007 oil prices ranged from $37 to $65 dollars before going to a high of $141.00 in 2008 before dropping back to as low as $33 in the first quarter of 2009. Most of the quoted and traded oil comes from Foreign National Oil companies, the American oil companies and refiners have to buy at the current market price. The only answer is to increase production, that means drilling in the USA, you may not beleive in supply and demand but one indisputable fact is that every time the supply of any commodity goes up or the demand goes down the price goes down. War and unrest do affect the markets outside the supply and demand model but it is temporary, the same as when drouth and other weather problems affect the short term price of agricultural commodities.

Its called Sell/Buy -- anyone who has ever dealt in stocker or feeder cattle does a version of the same thing, try to buy on the same market you sell on and vice versa, if not, they would soon be broke.

"Something" like what, exactly?

Not drive? Oh yes, let's not drive. It'll take about 3 days to put the nation on the brink of economic collapse, then we'll all have to work 3 times as hard to catch up. A week later nobody will remember it ever happened.

Don't buy gas for one day? Good idea. That'll show 'em, until we all get in our cars the next morning, find the needle on "E," and have to fill up to get to work. No income one day, record income the next. Net loss to the oil companies: ZERO.

So what exactly is this "something" that we're supposed to do that'll change things?

Retired two years ago. Drive about 25 miles a week. They can put their gas where to sun don't shine. Have a goodun.

My question is this. In 2007-2008 when gas got so high, about $4/gal, oil was in the $140 area. Now we have the same retail price, about $4/gal, but oil is only at $100 or so per barrel. That's a big difference and I don't understand why no one is talking about that!

tlak and the like will say this is due to greedy oil companies, retailers, etc.. My answer to that would be that this industry is so highly regulated by the government that there isn't enough competition. It's too hard to start a new oil company with all that red tape.
