gehl skid loader

I have an old gehl skid loader that lurches both back and forward on the right side when starting to move the skid loader. I'm guessing this is a problem in the hydraulic motor drive and hope it is a sticky valve or shot o-ring. Any suggestions?

You don't indicate what model. Some of the early
ones would have wear in the linkage or the link
ends would wear and loosen in the plate that they
mount to. Some of the models had factory updates
and service bulletins directing "brake pad" type
kits on the linkage control levers to keep them
from rocking. Chuck

I'm not familiar with Gehl loaders so this could be way off... but with the NH loaders that would likely suggest a problem with the reduction case IF I understand correctly what it's doing.
With mine, I'd jack that side up and check for play in the wheels... at the bearings, then slack in the chains and then the slack in the shafts. I've had the splines fail on the motor shaft.. and that bit of slack in those splines translates into quite a bit of movement at the wheels. Again, this is a 'lurch' or uncontrolled movement in the machine when you stop or a slight hesitation when you start away... and not a 'creep' problem where the machine moves when the levers are 'at rest'.
If it's creeping, then you need to adjust the controls.
I don't really see that as being an internal hydraulic problem tho. When motors and hydro's fail it's generally in the other extreme where they plain won't move.

I was told that some machines will start acting funny when the double u-joint from the engine to hydro pump goes south. My machine has grease fittings but some machines aren't greaseable. If your linkages are loose/worn out could also cause it. Dave
