Generator to alternator conversion

I've done no telling how many 6v to 12v conversions and generator to alternator conversions. I've always just use a 10si alternator as that seems what is most popular and readily available. It has been a pain sometimes to fit a 10si in the place of a generator though. I want to think I've seen conversions in the past that used a smaller alternator, what alternator are they using?

I picked up a Ford 8000 and it's a older model that still has a generator. Of course it doesn't work so I'm thinking of converting it. I'd like to try something smaller in physical size than a 10si, I think it would make the install easier.

I had installed the mini denso's sold on Ebay and have had good luck with them, I also wire them 3 wire with a diode, the plug in is a "T" shape.
Yes, I always wire the 10si up 3-wire with a diode. Never did have much luck with the self exiting 1-wire on a tractor.

I just did one on an H Farmall with a Hitachi 12231 alternator supplied by YT Parts. It's small enough to fit under the H's hood with room for belt adjustment.

I used that one to practice on. Now I'm getting ready to do the one I really want converted. Years ago, I converted an AC D19 from a 12 volt generator to a GM 10si alternator, but on that the unit sits outside the hood so there is no problem for space.
