Can these gens be rebuilt easily? Looks like some new brushes would get me going. Can these brushes be purchased from NAPA??

Have to check with NAPA. Last time I needed brushes, I went to my local generator/alternator shop & exchanged $4 for a set.

2000:

Rebuilding a generator is a pretty simple and inexpensive job so long as the armature and fields are good and the commutator end bushing has not worn completely through and into the aluminum end frame. End frames are no longer available so you will be looking for a parts generator if you need one.

You should be able to buy brushes at any GOOD auto parts store. The front bearing is standard. Any good bearing supplier should be able to supply both the bearing and commutator end bushing.

I have rebuilt many but no longer do so as a local friend who is in the business rebuilds them for me for $35-$40, including sandblasting and painting the frame.
