Anybody remember the elevator operators in the downtown dept stores? It's a shame I can't collect a salary for sending my brother to the third floor with this rig.

I sure hope you have that top platform secured to the bottom part of that lift, if you go to the end of the platform, it would sure make it interesting coming down.

MORE Interesting, if your painting that house, I do remember a few who paint a house from the bottom up, and I think their from Poland...

The platform is welded to the subframe. You could put five guys on the end and ten squares of roofing. They would be safe.

I own the house with my brother. It was inherited more than 45 years ago. I refuse to work on the house nowadays. It was mostly my labor and only my money that kept it going. I built an apartment in the house so that they would have money to hire repairs. It sits unoccupied.

I was concerned that he would injure himself and I would be forced to buy out his widow. To tell you the truth, I am somewhat concerned that if the property looks too good, she will file for divorce anyway. It's a bad situation. I am happy to live in the barn with my tractors and work shops.

As for painting from the bottom, talk to the "project manager". He doesn't know what he is doing. It took him four days to paint the gable. Several years to repair and paint that side.

By the looks it's been a while since it's had some paint, I sure wouldn't want to have to glaze all those window panes.

dang wardner, that thing is slick!!! think mebbe i can borrow it to paint my corn crib????? beats the heck out of trying to reposition scaffolding, or working off a couple ladders and planks.

I'd like to build a platform like that. My forklift looks about that size, but do you have some sort of safety lock in case a hose blows?

No lock. Don't think it is needed as the oil cannot escape the hose fast enough to attain a high speed on the platform. That would be true even if that 8000 lb forklift were lifting an 8000 lb platform. You might get a butterfly or two in your stomach but that is survivable. It happens everyday in high speed elevators around the world. Put a few cheap pallets on the ground to soften the landing. On the other hand, why even worry. Give the hoses a pressure test by fully loading the forks prior to attaching the platform.

If you are still concerned, jam an appropriate sized log or steel beam vertically between the slider channels and the base of the mast.

Most old forklifts will "creep" as oil leaks past the cylinder packings or spool valves. My forklift loses about 6" a day. The cribbing I mentioned will prevent that.
