I broke down and put a PTO shield on this old M.

Don't worry tho. Not all is lost, 'cause I'm really fighting the urge to put on those duals that my Buddy is trying to sell me....................

They would look kinda neat however......... :>)

And really, what good would they do on an old M other than just "look" unique?

Don't plan on putting a loader on the old rascal and this area is flat as a pancake anyhoo.

I have a friend with duals on his M. Looks pretty neat Not so hot if you've got to drive through anything narrow though! tractorsam

Some things just "aren't" done, ya know. I'm really pushin' my luck with the neighbors as it is by havin' this silly shield on.

Gotta be the only tractor in the county with the PTO covered up. :>)

You are right there aren't many But I have one on my Supper 'C' and also the belt pulley shield.

Duals would look cool, if it does not narrow up the operator area too much.

Actually, what I think would look even better is a set of 15.5's on 14" rims. That's what I have on my DC CASE and it looks sharp. Duals on a standard axle DC is too crowded to look nice.

Nothing wrong with safety! IS that an overrun coupler on the pto, or is it just the pto shaft. Looks pretty clean there.

Naw, it's just the PTO shaft. This ol' sis really needs a bath. It was so darned clean when I got it too. :>(

Saw a 450D not long ago with dual 15.5s, cast centers, one turned in, the other turned out. Didn't look right to me.

Aint early here, almost 7:00.(Getting the boys ready for school) I tell ya, if youre planning on using that PTO any, Id sure put an overrun coupler on it. Two of my Ms have one on it and it sure is alot safer that way. When I was younger, I thought I was going to help Dad and do a little bushhogging, forgot that I had to start stopping a good bit earlier with it running, got a little to close to the barn, which was right beside the feild I was cutting, and yep, you guessed it, I couldnt stop and right through the side of the barn.

Allan, the 450 I have had duals on it when I got it from dad. 450...M...same tractor just older.
He ran duals so he could pull the silage wagons up the grade by the barn. The single tires would spin on wet grass...so he helped her out a little.
Worked like a champ. The 450 is a narrow front end...but it still looked darn good with duals.
Plus, I could pull the spreader on the fields in winter when cleaning out the barns a lot better. If it warmed just a little to thaw about an inch or so...off you went down a slope.
I may put them back on one day just for the heck of it.

Alan now you need a quick hitch so you don't have to get off to hook up,since your getting so old.Reading about you fellows all the time makes me feel like I know you all.I farm at mile 12 along the mo.river &1.5 miles across the field is the mississippi river. When you dump your bath water we get wet.We had axle duals on our 450 when it was our big tractor.We thought we had a big horse. Good luck Wildman

PTO guards aren't sissy.. I have never thought much of them other than being a PITA to get the shafts coupled. Until last summer when I twisted the PTO shaft off on my 7' Allis mower behind the 350... The PTO shield kept that 3 foot piece of pipe from destroying the fast hitch and most likely me.... The PTO shield didn't fare too well and went to the great scrap heap in the sky... The 350 and I lived to mow another day... with a replacement PTO shield.

The M may not have enough sack to twist off a good PTO shaft before killing the engine 99% of the time but a LPTO and or IPTO are entirely different animals...

Oh, for sure.

I remember when my dad bought that new 400D.

Biggest bull in the yard for a few years and at long last, we could get away from the tumble plow and could finally cultivate with a rear mount instead of that old slow belly mount.

Then he turns right around and buys a new 560D. Nice tractor but couldn't keep a head on the goofy thing.

well i think it's good that you put that back on there. they are good to have. i still got them on my h's and one of my m's and the only reason the one M doesen't have it on there is because one of the bolt "ears" is broke off. man i wish i had the time you have to put all that work into that M. seems like i'm always stuck fixing everything else. how much was that 3pt by the way? i was thinking of geting one.
