good pulling tractor?

Dad and I are thinking of building a pulling tractor....we have been dabbling in farm stock and really enjoy it and thinking about building something up. Just wondering if there are any thoughts on a good tractor to start with? We thought about a WC with 24in pressed steel rears but looking for suggestions..currently don;t have a tractor for this purpose yet

jeff , look ,at the rules of the pulls in your area ,, what size trailer do you have ? Any make tractor can be competive, some brand and models due better in certian classes . I like trying to get the underdog to beat the big green or red tractors Just remember you will have to get pass prairie gold to win !!!! A stock wc maybe not but I have seen couple with d17 motors get it done bob

well we know we don;t want green....the trailer issue is taken care of...i thought 24's would be better to "gear down" the tractor...why 38's? sorry but i don;t know much about this

jeff, the larger dia. tires give you a larger foot print or square inchs on the ground, some places will not let you put the big tires in stock classes the D19 was the frist AC with 38 in. tires , remember those big tires will change your gear raito a bunch it will take a lot of horse power to compensate. bob

ok i understand now....they do have a few rules about tires depending on division..i will have to re-read them...no suggestions on tractors though? the guys that do the best where i pull, one has a cockshutt 40 running about 105hp...another has a massey 44....a couple CA's with combine and d17 motors that run really good..and a farmall m and H

use as big of a tire as rules allow ,bigger tire more rubber on ground, more traction just haft to have enough horsepower to turn them

jeff , ok I see that you are looking at,, how about this little package Moline model R with a 4 star (206 ) or u302 220 cu. engine ,do all the good stuff and go looking for the cockshutt . the R is about 3500 lb, it would be different and very competive

i would look at an ollie mostly an 88 or 77 put a wakasha engine in them and hang on plus the engines are interchangable for several years

THE D19 WAS NOT THE FIRST ALLIS WITH 38'S. WD45 HAD THEM AS A HIGHCROP OPTION.BEFORE THE WD45 I DO NOT KNOW SO I WON'T ARGUE THAT POINT. A WC WITH A SET OF FLAT TOP PISTONS & A WD45 CRANK, A GOOD CAM,HEAD & carb work makes a nice engine with a lot of torque. in a wc with a rc ring & pinion' you should be able to pull in the 5500lb class with out to much problems
