Gooseneck Trailer Suspension

I asked this question on the Implement Alley Forum and got a few responses so i thought I'd give this one a try.
I going to get a 14K GVWR goosneck flatbed for general hauling for the ranch (big round bales, lumber, posts, etc) and I wondered what type of suspension holds up best and will work best, slipper springs or torque flex axles?

A lot of you folks have a lot of experience with this type of equipment and so far the responses I got from the other forum awhere pretty evenly divided.
What say all of you?

If you are going to run lots of miles on reasonably good roads, I would go for the torsion axles. They really ride smooth. the down side is if you mess one up, there is no repairing them and they are expensive to replace.If you break a spring or hanger on the conventional axles they are reasonably easy and cheap to fix. Brakes, bearings and Etc are the same on both. Still Your Choice

We have a 7x16 Titan stock trailer and a 8x25 Titan flatbed. Both have the torsion bar suspension. I think that is the BEST suspension set up there is... more clearance and lower deck height than springs.

No problem whatsoever with either one after several years of moderate use.

get the Torsion Flex we have 24 ft flatbed with those and it pull a lot better than the springs we do exactly what you are talking haul hay,tractors, fence supplies about anything it will hold have pulled it thousands of mile no trouble yet across fields pastures and roads all loaded can put 11 big rounds on it over axle rating but it does fine.

I personally do not like the torsion springs for heavy duty use. They are ok for flat ground but there is no equalization for uneven ground or hitch height variation.

Well since thay do not have and air compressor on a pickup i like spring . Now the day that they put air ride on pickup's then that is the day i want and air ride tandem duel trailer . Them torshion deals like others have said are fine on the black top but ain't worth a shutt off road ya could end up bending a axel .

Consensus is: Either one is a quality suspension.Personally I like the Spring set up over the Torsion setup.I can fix the springs but the torsion is another matter.

Google up "Dexter Axle Co". Lookit how they are made, read the precautions on Torflex suspension, think about how YOU will use your trailer, then decide. They have an excellent site chock full of information about every thing trailer.
