after a long day of disking the speed control stopped working and I limped back from the field with the tractor only idling. I checked the linkage and found that the input lever and the output weren"t connected. I opened the governor housing and saw that the governor spring was broken. Now that it has arrived from the case dealer (25.00 dollars with shipping? Is the spring made of platinum?). I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for installing it. In looking at the manual the orintation of the springs ears seems important but confusing from the illustration. To me, it looks as though the bottom ear is threaded through the "A" hole of the rockshaft lever from the left side so that the open part of the ear is pointed towards the driver's (right) side. For the upper ear it appears that the spring has been twisted so that the ear is facing the left side. Is that the case? I've pulled out the bearing and thrust sleeve and they look to be in fine shape. Any hints?
