I'm in Wi. and looking for a good late model grain truck GM 1976-1989 approx. I would like approx 16ft comb. grain box with hoist. Don't need tandem. Looking for gas engine with 4spd/2spd rear axle. Just need for hauling bldg materials, some demolition materials taking down old bldg. Also will haul small loads of sand, gravel. Can go to farm sales in Ia. Wi. Il. Ks Ne Mo etc. What are prices and availibility in your areas ? Thanks for the advise and help.

Had just what you are looking for, every time I wanted it (66 Chev big 6) my son had it. Finally sold it to him for $1. thinking he could license and insure. Ha, he still has the old tags and no Ins. uses it in the woods at home. Bought a 6 yd dump trailer (goose neck). Guess where it is!

If you look in eastern SD, Ne, and other farming areas you can find a good one for $3000. Most farms don't use them anymore cause the combines have gotten so large the small trucks can't haul enough. Look the frame over carefully to make sure its not been bent and welded on.

It seems that the U.S. is loaded with single axle trucks, take a look on e-bay, I know your preference is for a GM, but there seems to be an awful lot of older fords out there worth investigating for a few thousand dollars, I use my old F-600 for the same purposes, it's just a handy thing to have at your disposal. Even locally in the want ad digest, I see many good single axles quite often, like a fool, last year I passed up on a single axle international '79 S-1700 fire tanker, with like 7,000 miles on it, was always in the firehouse, super clean, they only wanted $1100.00 for it, also had a '69 for the same money, same miles and condition. That tank could have been sold and even with a new dump body, it would have been dollars ahead, keep looking and don't buy the first one you see, look em over carefully they are out there, very reasonable too, mine was an old grain truck, there seems to be plenty of those for sale at times too.

I watched a 1978 C60 V-8 5and2 transmission, 16 ft knapheide bed and a tag axle for $1200 dollars good straight truck I had seen and heard it run before the sale but some joker stole the key out of it the day of sale should have bought it o well. I went to the sale set on buying a different truck that my Grandad had bought with 900 miles on it after it had been repoed it is a 1961 C60 with 14ft bed and if I get my way it will never be forsale again.

Dime a dozen here in Minnesota, kinda beater trucks coming from us farmers, but about the most common item you will find, $900 - $3500.

Saw a neat little F350 with dump bed sell for $900 yesterday - figured some contractors would be looking that one over.
