green acres

the question of what kind of tractor was on green acres made me think of Hank Kimble, the county agents vehicle,,,,,,do you remember it?And who was the girl that was sweet on Hank? Who was Arnold the pigs mother and father? There was a neighbor farmer named Newt, what was his last name? What did Oliver use for a head gasket on an old truck he borrowed to deliver apples?
Just some cabin fever trivia,,,it is farm related,,,,,lol

Head gasket was the "overflow" of Lisa"s four pancakes. Arnold was a Ziffel. Vehicle was a little Ford (?) (Scout?).

OK ... What did Sky King have on the inside door panel of his station wagon ?? Name all the movies that Edgar Buchannon was in [ in order ] .. You see , I'm bored to death too.... Stuck in the house with the wife and an ill cat..

I think the tractor was a JD GP. I don't even remember with any certainty, but it seems to me that the tractor was a two cylinder flathead, which the GP was. Pray for warm pleasant weather!!! best Yeoman

Even though Hank Kimble drove a Bronco,I think in a very few of the earliest episodes,he drove a Jeep didn't he? I'm thinking that early one had a spare tire on the side.

And it was Newt Kiley. My niece's name is Kiley, doesn't like it when I call her Newt Kiley.

It was Ralph Monroe that was sweet on Hank. They got married in one episode but then they found out Sam's license to perform marriages had expired. They didn't find out until after they had left for their honeymoon.

the new tractor Lisa bought was a 6000 commander the episode can be seen on U-tube, and the pancake head gasket was left after Lisa showed the diner cook how "she" made pancakes by using the coffee pot lid to cut out the cakes, I still watch the show from time to time, in the one with the head gasket they were pulled over by the county agents cousin I think funny stuff

In one episode,Oliver opened the barn door and there was a tractor sitting there that a gangster had left there for them. That one appeared to be about a 3000 Ford wasn't it? I don't think it had decals on it. The report on the radio was that a yellow tractor had been stolen, but they had painted it blue before they took it to them.

I think the radio report was for a red combine, but Ebb told Mr. Douglas not worry, ours is yeller.

Then the radio said also stolen were ten gallons yellow paint.

Don't ask my why I remember this, I can't stand the show. It makes everyone in it appear to be idiots which I've never found amusing.

evertime i see an amish by the road i cant help but think of green acres at least the dont. have to climb the pole!
add on to this post think how many shows mixed with this one remember petticoat junction??

ok what one married the crop duster i think she was the mechinac steves second choice they were all cute.
its interesting that a showed not only had a crop duster on but the featured him maybe it shows how people have changed back then there was still a large rural population

Originally,Kate from Petticoat junction, played Pearl, who was Jethro Bodines mom,and Jed Clampetts sister, she told Jed He should take the family to Californie, and Jethro could drive them there in her truck, granny did not want to go they had to strap her to her rocking chair on the bed of the truck.

I remember looking this up on the interwebz one time the subject came up here before.

Found a very informative site.

Of course we all know the tractor Oliver is driving in the opening of the show is a John Deere GP. If you look close there is also a Farmall M by a shed in one of the arial shots of the opening also. The borken down tractor Oliver bought from Mr Haney was a Hoyt-Clagwell (more in a bit on that)

Now what I gleaned from the site. At some point early on Ford Motor became a major sponsor of the show. At that point other than the opening everybit of iron was of ford heritage. Hank Kimball did drive a Jeep in a couple episodes and then a Bronco. The Hoyt-Clagwell was a old Fordson. Lisa bought a ford 6000 in one episode. Don't think it was presented as a ford but the product placement was there. Oliver drove a Ford of some sort. Only question I have never been able to confirm is Haney's truck.

Ralph Monroe was the Carpenter who was sweet on Kimball.

The other trivia questions I don't know.

Interesting parallel; My mother supposedly came over on the same ship as the Gabor sisters in the 30's to get away from the Nazis. Sadly my mother was almost as much an airhead as Lisa. Here's a good question; What did Oliver do during the war that he found so objectionable?

That was Betty Jo. Billy Jo was the blonde who was played by three different actresses. Bobby Jo,the brunette, was played by the same gal in all but the pilot episode. Linda Kay Henning played Betty Jo all through the series. She went by Linda Kay for a while since her Dad was the creator of the show.

That was one show that went on a little too far. The Timmy and Jeff episodes were some of the best TV ever, but when the forest ranger episodes started, that should have been the end. The ones after that where she was on her own wandering the countryside were pathetic. They've been showing those lately on afternoon TV.
Even some of the last Beverly Hillbillies seemed to be just filling up a half hour by putting something on.

And his Moline 4 Star too.
There was an episode on yesterday where they were taking care of a baby elephant and it turned the truck on to its side.

is that truck two wheel drive,I remember it had heavy wheels on it,dont remember if it was 4 wheel drive,I think it was 2 wheel, but a heavy built pickup,,,where they good trucks?dont know anyone that had one.

I stand corrected. Wasn't quite sure on that one myself but was pretty sure it was under the FoMoCo label.

As I remember he flew a P-38 Lightning fighter and one of his missions was ground support to bomb a German position in a farm house. As he was going in he was on the radio all upset about causing colateral to new crops. The beginnings of his course to becomming a farmer.

I think it was probably 2 wheel drive ya. I don't think it was a Power Wagon, but it had what looked like spilt rim truck wheels on it.

here is a shot from the early black & white series opening part, I always thought it odd he was driving this JD "GP"? but was always working on the Fordson lol

newt kiley ,. jd gp,,, and don't forget the hoyt clagwheel ./Lincoln true ,, in the later episodes he had a mercury marquis convertible ,,JUST LIKE MINE ,cept mine is triple black with red pinstripe

I concur , what about steves airplane,, was it a steerman ?/////,wanna drag over the Beverly hillbillies also , just realized, 1st episodes had a lot different music for end tune by flat and Scruggs ,, ,,oops , goota go , finally hay customer is here....

It was a D300 utiline 1 ton model. It was offered with single or optional dual rear wheels. It had a 126 inch wheel base and 9 foot bed vs 116 inch for the d200 with an 8 foot bed. It could be bought with the new sweptline bed, but only with single rear wheels.

Red....Yellow....It was all black and white to me. Dad kept bringing home everyone elses nice used B&W TVs after they got a new color TV. It wasn't until sometime until the late 90s I saw a Gilligan's Island rerun and found out Gilligan's shirt was red and Skipper's was blue!
