ground drive tires

I have a small international manure spreader, that is ground driven. I blew out a tire wednesday, from dry rot, and haven"t been able to find any of the chevron cleated tires, which were standard issue, for ground driven machines. These were 550x16", and around 5" rims, with normal rear tractor style tread. I would love to buy a couple of new tires, if I could find a source. Anyone out there know where I can order two new tires? I have two car tires on it right now, so I can get some work done, but had to use my truck chains to keep the wheels from skidding on the grass.

Miller Tire carries them. Any tire shop that has ag tires can get them. The trick is finding a one that is willing to do it without charging an arm and a leg. AWM

I've had several ground drive manure spreaders. I never saw any difference between cleated tires and highway tread tires. My last International 200 had some dryrotted 20" truck tire take offs, they out lasted the spreader and I never had any trouble spreading manure in the wet, on frozen ground or in sloppy mud.

My old supplier shows overseas built 4 ply for 34.16 each. I dont remember them being this cheap.

tg in VA is right. Highway tires will work--even being smooth. BUT the floor should be smooth (or coated w/used motor oil)---All bearings and chains lubricated properly so that everything turns freely. Don't "choke" the beaters with stringy material when you're loading.
