has anyone mailed tires?

I need to help/talk someone into mailing two 8.3 x 20 tractor tread tires to me so I don't have to drive there. my post office did not seem to want to give much advice.
Box tires or can a address label just be taped to them? Tape tires together?
maybe FEDEX might be better. which is cheaper?

Yes, the US Postal Service does handle tires thru the mail. Cheapest and best way is Parcel Post rate (surface transportation anywhere in US, aka "third class") You can just tape a label to them by using much , much tape, as going round and round thru where the wheel goes. I mean clear, 2 inch wide tape, covering the entire label. Might even take your roll of tape to the post office and after postage, whether stamps or a postage meter strip, is affixed, add more tape covering the postage, so it doesn't fall off. Be sure your return address is well attached just in case something happens and you get them back. (No return address label means you might never see them again if wrong address, etc.) If they should come back, if mailing parcel post, you'll have to pay postage both ways. You could also mail them Priority rate or First class for more money and return postage is included. Believe me, they'll get some rough handling, but no need to box them up. just have them fairly clean if they are used tires. Hope this helps, and don't take "No" from any small town postmaster, or window clerk in a bigger town/city. Also, it will take a while for them to arrive at their destination if going by surface mail.

They wouldn't have to be taped together. Might make for a very big parcel if taped together as one item. Would be easier to handle if 2 separate items.

I'd say your looking at UPS each one separate.
I just tape my label on with clear tape and go all around it.These are unmounted that I have sent.

I've heard Greyhound bus line is cheap if it is near you,[and shipper].
I have shipped tires FEDEX,
The rate may be better shipping each one seperate. More than one adress lable is not a bad idea,so if one gete torn.

I got two front tires still mounted on the wheels for a VAC Case a while back - don't remember the size, but UPS delivered them taped together as one package with no problems...

I used to haul Priority Mail for the US Post Office, the mail is put into rolling cages and loaded into trailers for transport. It was not uncommon to see tires with labels taped on shipped loose in the cages.

I bought some on ebay and they shipped them to me for a hundered dollars. Only draw back was that they sent them to me one at a time. Took 4 days to get them all.

i would think you would be able to. just ger boxes the appropriate size. Heck there is a jenk yard out of ND shipping a case 1030 block to me.
Call your UPS or FedX guys and ask them
