Hauling a VAC

I have a concern on hauling my 51 VAC. I just had it painted and am now worrying about scaring it up when chaining it down on the trailer. What I currently do is strap a chain across the torso and then put one on the rear attached to the long tow bar. I would like to hear from others here on how they have worked this out when hauling their VACs. I am looking for some different options. Thanks WOD288 in VA

I would never tie a tractor around the torso. 30 years ago I saw the local John Deere dealer do that to a MT and hit a big bunp and broke the tractor in half.

I would use ratchet straps or at least straps where it contacted the tractor and tie from and rear.

Neatest setup on Vac with cultivator mount is a square tubing clamped in the front mount with holes for a clevis to hook the CHAINS. One to each corner... Gene

I believe that you must tie down at 4 different points by law. I tie down using the culivator tube
and the rear threw the wheels with belts.

There is a forum on this site for transporting and it is very useful. I think that if what you are hauling has wheels, all four corners need chained down with four separate chains. The cultivator holes with square tubing is a good start. Allan.

I agree with the post below, never strap down a tractor at the torso. The cast is very brittle and subject to breakage. I always use straps at the tires when possible.

Hey Gene,

One more thing, how do you clamp the tubing in the front cultivator slots...The guy who is painting my tractor said there is no bolt hole to use to tighten them up.

Thanks
