Hay.... elevator chain question....

I can't find the danged manual for it/still looking. So, while I'm being impatient....

How tight or not tight should it be? Should the paddles be dragging on the bottom of the bottom trough on the return trip? That thing sure squeaks & groans a lot. Don't want to get it too tight though.

Also....

Guessing it's like a spreader chain & you have to keep it equally tight on both sides so it runs straight? Looks like it should be that easy, at least.

Watch your drive sprockets at the bottom when it running. Tighten it enough so the links come straight off the sprockets and don't try to follow them down, causing them to look like they're wanting to double up.
The chain coming off the bottom right sprocket, comes off a bit loose. If I tighten that side down a touch, it starts to run crooked. The sprocket doesn't have any lumps or hooking on the teeth. Think the elevator might have a slight twist in it somewhere.

Like has been said, it will start to pile up at the bottom if ran too loose. Other than that, if the chain is staying on run it.

Suggest hiring high school youth. We did many years ago . They said our elevator was to slow . So they through the bales up there into the loft . Just a thought ! Till you get elevated sorted out .

That's the spirit!

I do have the elevator straightened out, but....

My cousin's kid is around 18 or 19 & likes to poke fun at my "old" self, out moving hay by hand with " those lunch lady arms". Might have to put him to work on first cutting.... as the elevator may or may not be working at that point in time.

Nor my my NH bale wagon. :p
